Update 08/17/12:
Lucy recently attended the MAESSR Pig Roast in Virginia. She had a wonderful time meeting everyone and swimming. She did better with meeting new people than her foster mom has seen in the month since her arrival. It was pretty amazing! Lucy has continued to expand her horizons and will do well with a family who is willing to work with her for a little longer on greeting strangers.
Things are also looking up for Lucy on the health front! Her skin infection has cleared and the thyroid supplements are definitely helping. She will need to be maintained on thyroid supplements for the rest of her life in order to stay happy and healthy. Fortunately, this med is quite inexpensive, and Lucy sits politely for hers every day!
This sweet girl is just about ready for her forever home. She is a major love bug and will be a lot of fun for her new family to have around!
Original:
Lucy was relinquished to MAESSR after an incident with one of the three year old twins in her New Jersey home. It was felt that for everyone’s peace of mind, Lucy should move to a new home. Lucy was good with the toddlers most of the time, but sometimes the youngsters just did not know when to give Lucy a break.
In her foster home, Lucy has done very well. She is a shy girl who warms up slowly. Lucy does not act aggressively but just stays away until she feels comfortable. It took about two days for her to be sleeping in the bed with her foster mom, and she is now her foster mom’s shadow.
While she has never been to a formal obedience class, Lucy knows most basic commands. At her previous home, she was allowed off leash in safe areas and had very good recall. She rides nicely in the car for short trips, but has a history of getting sick on longer rides. She doesn’t have a lot of experience being walked on leash, so she tends to pull.
Although Lucy is crate-trained, she has been allowed free run of the house without issues. She has done well both at the groomer and being groomed at home. Lucy doesn’t mind having her ears, teeth, or paws handled but she does not like having ear cleanser squeezed into her ears!
Lucy is a typical sweet Springer. She would do best in a home without young kids, but will make an excellent companion for a Springer-loving adult.
