Original: “In her foster home, Lucy has been nothing but a sweet, gentle, Velcro Springer.”
Lucy was relinquished to MAESSR because she was not adjusting well to the Delaware owner’s 3.5-year-old granddaughter, showing inappropriate behavior when the child would approach her when the owner was near. Ironically, Lucy played well with the granddaughter in the yard, allowing her to give treats and play games with her. Since the child was frequently at the owner’s house, relinquishing Lucy to a child free home was thought to be safest for all concerned.
In her foster home, Lucy has been nothing but a sweet, gentle, Velcro Springer. Both housetrained and crate trained, Lucy goes to the back door when she needs to go out. Lucy has learned to go into her crate when asked and rests comfortably (and quietly) until she is let out. At night she sleeps contentedly in her crate, but would love to be able to sleep in bed with her human eventually. Lucy loves to cuddle on the couch when she is invited up.
Extremely obedient, Lucy responds to voice commands for “come,” “sit,” and “wait.” Lucy is working on meeting and greeting new human friends while out on walks and is doing well. She is fine with being a passenger in the car.
Lucy is not destructive and loves her toys. It was reported that Lucy suffered from separation anxiety but Lucy’s foster mom reports that she has not seen this. She must feel safe being surrounded by the resident dogs with whom she mostly gets along, chasing and playing. The only time that Lucy will growl at them is if they come too close to her while she is chewing on a bone; however, this has not escalated past the growl. High value treats such as pigs’ ears or bone marrow bones could escalate her behavior so her foster mom avoids having those around Lucy.
Lucy recently met cats for the first time and was unsure what these little creatures were, but showed no aggression towards them. Lucy’s foster mom will help her explore the world of kitties more.
Lucy’s dream home would be with an owner that is in control and is consistent with expectations for Lucy. Another dog for company would be fine, but no little children please. Her new owners must enjoy couch cuddling and playtime with Lucy. Bring this lovely Springer girl into your family this holiday season!
