Original: “Lucy is a higher energy level girl who LIVES to chase a tennis ball!”
Since a new baby came into her New Jersey family ten months ago, Lucy has not adjusted well. She kept herself away from the baby by self-isolating in her crate. Lately she had started chewing up the baby’s toys. At ten months the baby is starting to move around and is interested in Lucy, so the difficult decision was made to let her go to MAESSR.
Lucy is a higher energy level girl who LIVES to chase a tennis ball! She will play for hours. And, best of all, she is very good at bringing it back so her person can throw it again. Besides burning off energy playing ball, Lucy LOVES to swim and will swim in anything— a creek, pool, or even a puddle. Although she is good with other dogs, she doesn’t like roughhousing with them. Lucy thinks cats are fair game for chasing so her forever home should be cat-free.
Because Lucy is a bit anxious, her foster mom started her on an inexpensive supplement to help with her anxiety. She is doing much better now. Lucy was good at her vet appointment until it was time for her ears to be examined. She is not a fan of having her ears messed with probably because of frequent ear infections. The vet found that Lucy did have a bad ear infection for which she is being given antibiotics. She is also fussy with having her nails trimmed. Her foster mom would recommend using a muzzle on Lucy when doing either of these maintenance procedures.
Although Lucy has been fine with the adults she has met, she prefers to meet new people on her own rather than being approached. She is okay with the kids playing in the neighborhood. Her original owner said she might have submissive urination if one tries to get her out of her crate. She also may urinate submissively if she thinks she is in trouble or if visitors approach.
Housetrained and crate trained, Lucy has good house manners and sleeps in the bedroom at night on her dog bed. She is a very sweet girl that loves belly rubs.
A smart pup, Lucy knows “sit” and “paw” and walks nicely with an Easy Walk Harness. She will pull if her leash is attached to her collar, though. If it’s not time for a walk but a ride in the car is in order, Lucy gladly goes for a ride. She is a good passenger.
Lucy will make a wonderful addition to an active family who wants their pup to join them in walking, swimming, and playing ball. Older children would be good in the mix but not little ones. A forever home is on the top of Lucy’s wish list. Make her wish come true.
