At almost eight years old, Lucy’s life radically changed when her life-long owner died and the owner’s mother could not physically care for this pretty Pennsylvania Springer. So, her family thought it best for MAESSR to find her another loving home.
Lucy is in good health but her vet thought it best to give her meds and a supplement to aid in her transition from original home to foster home to forever home. This will decrease her anxiety. MAESSR will require her adoptive family to continue with regime until Lucy gains confidence in her new surroundings.
This little tri-colored girl had a ton of adjustments to make entering a home with four resident dogs. Initially, she whined to be with the people in the home but was frightened by the other dogs and would growl to warn them. Fortunately, the resident dogs understand this spooked behavior and gave her a wide berth for a few days for her to come around. This worked! Now, she now is following them and taking cues from them. Lucy is left loose with the other dogs in the downstairs during the day and she has been wonderful. At night she sleeps on a bed in the bedroom with all the other dogs. A new home meant new food. Lucy has been good at the switch from wet dog food over to good kibble and is now eating well.
Lucy is generally happy meeting all new people but barks and runs after them when they go to leave. Her foster mom is working with her on a leash to correct this behavior. Lucy really does love people and would love to snuggle on the couch or in bed with her person, but she stays off if that is what she is told.
Lucy knows ”sit” and will “come” when sure of herself. She originally would not go outside unless on a leash. Now she is bounding out the door with the rest of the resident dogs to go potty. She does counter-surf to investigate what is going on and her foster mom is working on correcting this. For fun she loves to play with a toy or two and is great walking on a leash.
Lucy went into the crate at the groomer and did very well with the entire spa process except she did not like the clippers near her face. She is a bit hesitant getting in the car and pants a bit while driving along; however, all and all she is a good passenger. As time goes by she will settle and realize the car does not mean a change of home.
