Lucky is a very sweet and active six-month-old liver and white puppy. She was raised with six children. Six children and a puppy were just too much for the mom to handle. She was not getting the attention she deserved. Lucky was mostly an outside girl. Lucky has the springer wiggle when she greets people and loves to give kisses. If given the opportunity, Lucky will counter-surf. She gets along fine with other dogs. I allowed Lucky the opportunity to see the vets cat today, she showed no real interest.
She will sit on command. Lucky does not always come when called. She is not leashed trained, but she is learning how to tolerate a leash. Lucky is not completely house-trained. She had a few little accidents her first day in her new environment but did not have any on her second day. Lucky visited the vet today and weighed in at 30 pounds. Lucky does not like the hose, but loves to be lathered up! She let me brush her coat and ears with no problems. She will run and get the tennis ball, but will not always bring it back. Lucky has a very sweet disposition and will be a great dog!
Update: from Lucky’s adoptive home:
We’ve had Lucky for two weeks today and she’s doing just fine. She’s learned to stay off of the furniture pretty well and makes it outside to go potty most of the time. Accidents are getting fewer and fewer (we have an economy size bottle of “Nature’s Miracle”). She’s been to the vet and had her stitches removed and her ears checked and got a clean bill of health. She’s also been to obedience class. She’s the youngest in her class (and has the biggest mouth!) and about mid-size compared to the 5 other dogs, everything from a huge German Shepherd to a little Dachshund. She’s learned “sit,” “down,” “stay” and is working on “heel.” She’s also good in the car and loves to go for rides (we keep some little rawhide sticks in the glove compartment that she only gets when she’s in the car). She’s crated when we’re at work all day and also at night and she’s very good about that (of course there is always a toy and some treats waiting for her in her crate!). She’s still nipping and likes shoes, but we got some bitter apple spray that tastes bad (kind of like that stuff we use to stop biting our fingernails) and if we spray the shoes or whatever she’s biting, she stops. We have a bay window in the dining room that she likes to jump up on, so we put some aluminum foil along the window and that keeps her off. The trainer at obedience class told us about the bitter apple spray and the aluminum foil and it really works. We really are enjoying her and she seems to have adapted very well. Her main interest is chasing the cats. Our poor cats spent the first three days up in a tree – they even slept in it! Now they just make themselves scarce and Lucky checks every tree and bush and deck chair every time she goes out, but doesn’t usually have much luck finding them. She had a bath yesterday and did very well. We did find two ticks on her and we got some “Frontline” from the vet for both her and the cats to take care of fleas and ticks. Thanks very much for all of your help.
