Lucky was purchased by his North Carolina owner as a pup. Unfortunately, his owner is now terminally ill and is not able to look after him. So, MAESSR was contacted to help find Lucky a new home.
At home with both dogs and cats, Lucky lived for his first six months with another old Springer and more recently with two other dogs and a cat. He got along fine with them but the older dogs were not interested in playing with this puppy. Lucky would chase the cat in trying to play with it.
Lucky is good with adults but has never been around children. All puppy, he does jump up and is mouthy–but not mean about it. He’s not keen on having his collar grabbed; then, he will turn around and mouth the hand gently. He has had no obedience training yet, but that will begin in earnest as soon as he is adopted. Although he was never walked on leash previously, in the last few weeks, he has been working on this with his foster parents. Puppies are works in progress and Lucky is no different at nine months.
Please note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under 1 year old to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Lucky will be required to have two series of obedience classes to ensure he grows up to be a very well-behaved boy.
Lucky is housetrained and crate trained, but he had not been crated lately in his former home. There, when his owner went out, he was kept in the basement and hadn’t done any damage. Now in his foster home, he is crated at night and has done well with that. Lucky is not a big barker and in the yard he is not a digger. He has not been groomed yet but was fine with his bath. Good boy, Lucky!
Very affectionate, Lucky loves to be with his people. Sometimes he will grab a sock and run to engage his people in play. He likes playing with his toys and running around burning off his puppy energy. Lucky isn’t a ball player, though, but if a car ride is offered, he’s ready to hop in, behaving well in the car. In his foster home, he went jogging and really liked that.
When he came into foster care, Lucky had fleas and some fur loss as well. After treatment with antibiotics, his fur is starting to grow back. Flea preventatives and anti-itch medication have eradicated the fleas and taken away his itchiness. The vet found that he had a UTI and he is being treated with antibiotics for that currently. Best of all, the vet said he was a very well-behaved boy!
This is one very sweet love bug that needs some structure and training in his life. Can you provide this for Lucky?
