Lucky became a MAESSR foster dog when her owner’s compromised health made it difficult to provide her care. She had been with her family, which included a 10-year-old child, since she was a puppy and enjoyed an active life with them. She had been to an obedience class and was a regular with a groomer. They reported that Lucky’s only dislike is when the washer and dryer are running and she is nearby. Her only notable health point is a small fatty tumor which the vet advises to leave as is. In the future, when she is anesthetized for another need, it can be removed. Otherwise, she’s a healthy girl!!
In many ways, Lucky is still a puppy at heart and can be mischievous. Even so, she has been quick to win over her foster family. With a dash of humor and an understanding that adjustment to a new home takes a bit of time, they say that Lucky is a “trip” but a darling one. She pulls hard on her leash, counter-surfs, checks out the trash, cries when they leave, tries to slip out an opening door and, of course, cannot be trusted off leash. She also gives herself couch privileges, will jump onto beds to gain a cushy advantage and has been known to view eye glasses as chew toys. Lucky’s saving grace is that she wakes the family with wonderful kisses in the mornings and is a fantastic playmate for the resident springer. The dogs have a fenced yard to run in and Lucky makes sure that both dogs get their daily exercise.
Lucky is pretty and sweet! She has shown no aggression whatsoever. A granddaughter in her foster family visits often and brings her friends to see Lucky. Lucky, in turn, really loves all the attention from the girls and from adult visitors as well. While great with people, her foster family does feel that her high energy level would make her best suited for a home without small children or senior citizens. Lucky is fully housetrained, was crate trained in her original home, and reportedly loves to ride in a car. She will “sit” and “come” when her people call.
When her foster mom takes Lucky outdoors, she has noticed that Lucky is especially interested in all the birds and small critters around her and shows interest in hunting. She spotted ducks recently, and though she hadn’t been swimming in her previous home, she might just be ready for a new experience.
Lucky gets excited about exploring everything and is embracing her widening world. She is also learning some limits from her foster family. As she settles with her forever family, she will let go of some of her light-hearted antics. She can be expected to be very active and full of life for years to come. This gal is not a couch potato……..well, not most of the time. She will shine with an active family who will share the outdoors with her and continue to let her live a full life.
