Update 01/01/2016: “Even if they leave the house for five minutes, her exuberant greeting is the same as if they were gone all day.“
LouLou recently moved to a new foster home with fewer dogs. According to her new foster mom, this beautiful smaller girl has so many wonderful qualities. She is good in the house when left alone, she agrees to be crated or to stay separated from her people without whining and barking, she listens and wants to please, and she loves to play and have attention given to her.
The one area that LouLou needs to work on is sharing her people with other dogs. She is fine in the pack playing and romping but, once her foster mom sits down, LouLou will trample over any dog to get next to her. She’ll then grumble when the other dogs try to come near. Her foster family is working on this with her, and many nights all four dogs lay side-by-side on the couch getting love. However, if this behavior is not consistently corrected and positive training techniques are not enforced, it could develop into a larger issue as LouLou ages. For this reason she would do better in a home with no children or older children who can also reinforce good behavior.
LouLou LOVES her people but seems particularly responsive to men. For playtime she has shown some interest in balls and some chew bones, but she leaves the stuffy toys alone. She is good in the car or anywhere else her humans go. Even if they leave the house for five minutes, her exuberant greeting is the same as if they were gone all day.
Lou is very motivated by praise and attention. She will thrive in a home where her new family will provide her with guidance and spend quality time with her. She promises to be a devoted companion!
Original: “Are you ready to ‘skip to my lou’ with this sweet gal?”
LouLou and her daughter Koko had lived with their Virginia owner since they were pups. The owner is moving to a place that does not allow dogs and turned to MAESSR for help. After LouLou had her pups, she and her family became outdoor dogs. They are now enjoying the warmth and love of a MAESSR foster home.
This young lady has done amazingly well in her new home. She has learned how to use the doggy door and has had no accidents. She is crate trained and sleeps in one at night. LouLou does not chew inappropriate items, submissively urinate or counter-surf—what a good girl!! She has never bitten or snapped or shown any signs of aggressive behavior with people or animals although she will sometimes growl when she becomes scared if a dog runs up to her.
Outside, Miss Lou does not dig or jump the fence, but does bark if someone is in “her” driveway. She had no idea what this thing called a “leash” was, but she is quickly learning to walk with it. LouLou loves to play fetch with a ball and also thoroughly enjoyed swimming in a lake.
This very young mama was recently professionally groomed—a first for her. She did well for the grooming in spite of being very scared. Similarly, she was well behaved at the vet’s and recovered quickly from being spayed and having her teeth cleaned. LouLou’s foster mom did start her on an inexpensive supplement to help ease her anxiety over all the new events happening in her life. With that help, she is settling in to her foster home like an old pro.
MAESSR’s new lady would love to have a family who will play ball and go swimming with her, take her for walks and help her learn more games and behaviors. Are you ready to “skip to my lou” with this sweet gal? LouLou is definitely a keeper and will bring much joy and fun to a home this holiday season, through 2016 and beyond!!
