Update 11/17/2020: “London does well at the groomer and gets compliments on her good behavior.”
London is a healthy, loving and energetic girl. She enjoys her walk first thing in the morning. She is improving at walking on the leash and only pulling when near bushy areas where the critters tend to live. She has strong “hunter instincts” so her nose is definitely working overtime the entire walk. She does like to run free in the local dog park and interaction with other dogs is getting better. London’s foster family is working on having her walk past other dogs without barking. She is a barker and will randomly bark at any noise she hears; this is something the foster family is trying to curtail.
Running after a tennis ball is great fun for London; she can retrieve it to keep the game going. She also loves rides in the car, preferring to ride “shotgun,” and is eager to get to the next location.
London does well at the groomer and gets compliments on her good behavior. Her coat is very short so grooming is pretty easy to do at home.
Due to her past experience of being in a tornado, London gets frightened with heavy wind/rain and thunder. She does not like loud noises and, oddly, the folding of clothes. She will try and hide behind her person’s legs when laundry time comes.
No need for a crate for this girl as she is fine in the house when the foster family leaves. She continues to want to “escape” out the door at times so the foster family makes sure she is on a halter and leash when going out.
London has not really been exposed to cats at the foster home. When she does see a cat, she tends to want to chase it thinking it is just another critter to pursue. A cat-free home would probably be best for her.
London would do well in a home with someone that is home most of the time. She would likely prefer to be the only dog in the household. She loves her foster dad and whines when he leaves the home and lies by the door until he returns. This active girl needs to have a place to run to get that energy worked out of her. London is a smart girl that can easily learn new tricks and be the love of her family.
Original: “London comes from a long line of hunting stock and has the instinct to ‘point’ out those birds.”
London finds her way to MAESSR due to a divorce in her family. When they moved to new homes, the small yard space did not provide much room for this active Maryland girl to run.
London has a friendly temperament and loves people – especially if they scratch her head and ears; she will quickly roll over for a good belly rub and is happy to give snuggles. She will greet her people with a “smile” by showing her teeth, which just means she is happy to see them. London is a very smart dog that had previous training. She already knows commands such as “sit,” “down,” “stay,” “paw,” “sit and wait” (for food), and even “foot check” to wipe her feet when she comes in from outside.
London is totally housetrained and simply whimpers when needing to go out. She sleeps on the bedroom floor of the foster home. A crate door is left open and sometimes she goes in. She has not been crated since she was a puppy.
A very polite dog, London does not counter-surf, chew inappropriately, or get into the trash (unless some food is left for her to smell.) Speaking of her nose, she has a great sense of smell and loves to flush out birds from the bushes as well as squirrels, chipmunks, or whatever is moving. London comes from a long line of hunting stock and has the instinct to “point” out those birds. She does not guard food or toys and has great energy level for her age. She loves to play with a rubber bone that lights up when it moves.
London loves to run in the open but comes back when called while running on a long lead. She was pulling on the leash when first taken into foster care and her foster parents are working on leash training. Since she is so smart, that is going well. When going on walks London greets other dogs and moves on, paying little attention to them. She may bark when seeing another dog and her foster parents are working on her barking. On occasion she has been aggressive with some strange dogs and that is being worked on as well. London seems friendly to children, but really pays them no mind and would rather sniff out critters.
A perfect lady at the vet, London got a gold star for behavior even though they poked and prodded at her. She has a curly coat and it will do well to keep her groomed on a regular basis. She sports a long bushy tail and she gets lots of compliments from folks around the neighborhood.
London would do well in a family that has plenty of time to spend with her as she gets anxious when her foster parents are not in sight. She would do well to be the only dog in a family as she does not appear to enjoy the company of other dogs. It is unknown how she would be with cats at this time. This active girl will make a wonderful companion to the people in her forever home and would love to snuggle on those chilly autumn nights.
