Update 05/10/09: Logan continues to be the sweetest dog. He would love to be a lap dog but, as he is 51 pounds, he is a little large for most laps! He is very good at not jumping, even though he has tried. He is not good when starting out on the leash and does pull but will settle down after a while. He does seem to be digging in the yard and his family is trying to stop that habit. Tis the digging season but only human gardeners need apply!
This last month Logan has been close to home and visiting his vet regarding a lump. It is located right over the site of his microchip, though no link between the two is suspected. Logan’s vet thinks this lump is an infection and is treating it with 2 antibiotics. If it doesn’t go away by his next recheck, the vet will surgically remove it. Keep fingers crossed that those meds do the trick!
Update 03/27/09: Yes, Logan has finished his heartworm treatment and is doing great! Just the kind of news everyone loves to hear. He will have cysts removed shortly and should then be ready to move on.
Actually, Logan has been moving on with his foster family all winter. He spent time with them in their RV and has adapted to being a Rover, just a little pun. He always loves the people he meets along the road. He still has a problem with jumping in his excitement and loves to be scratched. Indeed, he seems insatiable when it comes to being petted. Logan is such a sweet dog and will make someone a wonderful companion. He has a forever home out there somewhere. Is it yours?
Update 02/22/09: Logan’s family spent a recent weekend at an RV rally and, of course, Logan was the toast of the gathering. He met lots of new people, but he also had a problem with an upset tummy and diarrhea. So, he had his family up every night at least 3 to 4 times to let him out. A trip to the vet found that a medication he was taking was making his stomach upset and that he also has hook and whip worms! So, now he is on a wormer to rid him of his other worms. Monday is his last (a great big Woo Hoo!!!) heartworm treatment! Then the wait of another month to check and see if those little buggers are finally dead! So far, he has been a champ with all the drugs, except for this past weekend! Not fun in a 40-foot motor home!
Oh, he was accompanied on that trip by his ESS sister, ESS brother and Cocker brother! So, his family had 4 dogs wanting out during the night! Logan has been a great house guest but would really love to have someone of his own to rub his belly, give him snacks (cookies), and play ball with him. He still pulls terribly on the leash. His foster mom tried a harness on him but he dragged her nearly into a pond this past weekend! More work on this will be needed. He is a strong guy!
His manners are great, and he does give really good puppy kisses! He sleeps in his crate but loves to let his family know when the paper arrives around 4:30 A.M.! Logan’s days of treatment and travel are in the home stretch watch for his coming availability. It won’t take long for this sweetheart to be adopted!
Update 12/22/08: With his heartworm treatment underway, Logan is doing well. He is being quiet and taking his pills like a good boy. He goes back to the vet right after New Years for his second round of medication. He will then have to wait another month before he is re-tested, and treatment is complete.
Logan has learned to sit but still likes to jump every once in a while. This caused a little mishap recently for his foster mom. He jumped just as she bent over to give him a hug. His head, a very large and loving head, met her lip and her tooth went through her lip. The result was a very bloody and swollen lip. OUCH!!! Despite this, his foster mom says “you gotta love the big lug!” and points out the moral of the story which is to be ever vigilant of the jump! She still hugged him but only after she attended to her own first aid!
Logan does love the crate and plays a game of switching crates. One minute he is in his crate and then he moves to one of the other dogs’ crates. He is not territorial with his crate at all! He loves toys and will play with anyone you give him. But his most enduring quality is that he is a total love bug. He adores being petted and just loved. He would be a lap dog if you would let him and maybe when he is ready for his forever adopting family, he will find one that will let him be just that!!
Update 11/10/08:
Recently Logan went to the vet to begin the road on becoming a healthy puppy. What a great day to do just that! The resident cat in the vet’s office was roaming the waiting room. Logan went up to him and started to sniff. The cat sniffed back and then decided that he had had enough of this dog and swatted at Logan. Logan decided he didn’t like being swatted and walked away. The cat stayed on the bench and Logan with his foster mom sat on the bench on the other side of the entrance door. Logan and the cat basically ignored each other. When leaving the office, they passed each other and looked but made no other attempt to sniff or chase. So, Logan should do just fine with cats.
He has been great with all small children he has met. He gets along fine with all resident dogs and seems to make friends with everyone he meets.
Like all good Springers Logan loves to snuggle and really enjoys treats. He readily goes into his crate but needs some coaxing to sit. His foster family is working on “sit”, “down” and walking on leash. He has improved with jumping up on people and counter surfing. Logan is a good dog and is getting better all the time.
Logan is a little sickly right now and will be at his foster home for a couple more months to complete heartworm treatment. Check back to see how he is progressing. More later…….
Original:
Logan is a beautiful black and white Springer picked up by animal control as a stray in North Carolina. His coat certainly showed that he had been on the run for quite some time as he was in need of a good bath and grooming.
Logan’s foster family finds him to be a delightful boy who doesn’t even know he is a dog. He definitely thinks he is a person. When his foster mom pops into the shower, Logan goes in too and sits there with the water raining down on him. When it is time for her to be on the computer, Logan is right there at her feet in case she needs him to take a turn on the keyboard. He loves riding in the car and resting on the sofa with his people for some couch potato time.
During his vet exam, it was determined that Logan is heart worm positive so he will need to undergo treatment before being available for adoption. While in the vet’s office, he met his first cat. He was intrigued, but not overly anxious to meet the furry critter. He loves the company of the resident female Springer in his foster home and enjoys playing fetch in the yard. When it comes to male dogs, Logan cowers before them seeming frightened. The jury is out on the question of how Logan behaves with children as there are none in his foster home. He did meet some kids at the vet’s office and was not interested in them.
Logan is fully housebroken, indicating he did have someone who trained him and cared for him at one time. He is crate trained also. He sleeps in a crate at night and will whine for a few moments but settles in nicely after his foster mom tells him he is fine and “night night.” Logan is a wonderful boy in need of love and perhaps a canine sister to play with. Once he receives treatment for his heart worms, he will be ready for his new home.
