Original: “This cutie is fearless, smart, and a work in progress.“
At a young age, Little Man is already twice blessed. When he was 3 months old, he was adopted by a lady from Virginia who loved him instantly and deeply. He shared her home with a Great Dane and spent time with visiting family and children. Unfortunately, life took an unexpected turn. As his owner prepared to move herself, she sought a home for each dog. The Dane was placed first, and, after quite a search for the right place for Little Man, she learned about MAESSR’s program. Phone visits with volunteers led to arranging his surrender and offered peace of mind that his future was secure.
This cutie is fearless, smart, and a work in progress. He’s met and mixes well with another foster in the home that is twice his size and four times his age. Mostly they chase one another. But on occasion, LM boldly snatched a coveted Kong right from the other’s mouth; then he raced away with his buddy in good-spirited pursuit.
Around playtime, Little Man’s learned some manners…no feet on people…sit to receive treats…and be gentle when washing the face of the resident Springer. Little Man is crate-trained, working on his housetraining, and has done well on short, leashed walks. He traveled well in his crate to his foster home and has been patient with home grooming to tidy up ears, feet and his tail. Run-of-the-house will come but, for now, he doesn’t discern what is fair game to chew and what isn’t. Guidance is necessary. He has much to learn but most pups do!
Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption.
Little Man is a handsome boy, well-proportioned, nicely-marked, and sports a luxurious tail. He may gain a few pounds as he matures but he’s at a good weight now, eats well and seems to run off most of what he’s eating. He has engaging, hazel eyes and confidence to share them with his people. He may be a perfect condo companion!
The foster home he’s in now is a temporary one, so, he’ll make another move before he becomes “available.” Check back for news as Little Man continues to grow up…
