Update 11/08/11:
About Lily – Lily is a beautiful, smiley-faced, now 6-year-old Springer. She has been back in MAESSRs care for just a few days and is settling well with her foster family.
This well-nourished girl is somewhat hefty which slows her down a little, but it doesn’t keep her from jumping up on a high bed or happily bouncing around in the garden! She has a history with allergies but her foster mom hasn’t noticed any symptoms thus far. Lily does have dry skin and uses an oatmeal bath to keep her comfy.
Lily will lie in her bed but prefers to be snuggled up next to you, wherever you are which her foster mom allows. After all, Lily just lost her adopting mom, also a MAESSR foster volunteer, who passed away suddenly. With her move, Lily also lost the company of her good ESS buddy, Kalah, who went to another foster home. Lily is adjusting but just wants to be close to someone for some extra cuddling right now.
At times Lily will beg for food and counter- and table-surf – just checking things out, you know! She has had a few accidents in her home which are expected to cease as she learns a new routine. Lily will bark when family and others come to the door. It seems to be more of a protective mode for she quickly makes up to guests. She knows the commands sit, stay, paw, and is working on back up. Lily doesn’t dig, chew, jump the fence, or submissively urinate. She reportedly does chase cars but, with the fenced yard at her foster home, this hasn’t been tested. She walks well on a leash and is a good passenger in the car.
The small resident dog in her foster home is possessive and growls at Lily. This led to one noisy fight that was quickly ended. In the aftermath, Lily felt sad and went off to take a nap. Her foster mom expects the house dog to adjust to Lily soon. Her adopting family included cats and the cats and dogs got along very well and even slept together.
One look at this girl’s face just makes your heart melt. She was a treasured companion in her adopting home and, in a short time, should be ready to love another family. More to come on Lily.
Original:
When her Pennsylvania owner had to move, Lily IX could not go along, so she was relinquished to MAESSR.
When she first came into foster care and was taken to the vet for a check up, Lily was positive for Lyme disease and had bilateral ear infections. The ear infections are now gone after treatment and Lily is part way through her treatment for Lyme disease. Otherwise, she is in good health.
This pretty girl gets along very well with everyone and she loves kids! In her original home, Lily had lived with a five year old without problems. Now, Lily has another young, two-legged human foster brother with whom she sleeps at night! Life is good! When someone comes to the door, Lily barks, but when they come in and she gets to meet them, she will ask for attention and then quietly go lie down on her bed. Lily also gets along well with the resident dogs and cats in her foster home.
Housetrained and very trustworthy, Lily does not need to be crated. She has lovely house manners. When her foster family members are out, she has free run of the house without issue. Lily just likes to look out of the window for long periods of time; she is so endearing when she does this! She also loves to ride in the car.
Lily responds to all the basic commands – sit, shake, down, come. She also walks fine on a leash without pulling and can be trusted off leash. In the house, Lily has a large bone that she likes to carry around! Lily has good potential for doing agility work and her sweet personality and calm nature make her a good candidate for being a therapy dog to visit nursing homes.
Make this Lily yours and she will blossom in your family!
