Updated 9/5/07: Miss Lily has made herself quite at home at her foster home. She has been spayed and, now that the stitches are out, she has enjoyed her first hiking expedition. She had a great time charging through the brush around the lake. Since it was a contained area, she was able to be off her leash. As soon as she was let off, she zoomed off with her nose to the ground. After a couple of times calling her, she made a huge circle of the area and came right back to her foster parents. She enjoyed splashing in every source of water she found. By day’s end she had quite the fetching headdress of green sticker balls attached to the curls of her topknot. She thought the brushing process her patient foster dad put her through that evening was just heavenly. The only problem was that Lily kept flopping on her back, making it hard to brush her head!
Lily is a very social girl and has greatly enjoyed the multi-dog household and the company of the resident teenagers’ home from school over the past few weeks. In fact, she has learned that the resident teenage girl is a soft touch about letting Lily up on her bed. Lily’s favorite thing to do is go back to sleep with her after her foster mom leaves for work in the morning. One day the girl woke up to find Lily, the resident dog, and the resident cat all in bed with her, with the other foster boy right beside the bed on the floor. What a full bedroom!!
This sweetheart loves entertaining and has met children as young as 5 in her foster home and done well with all of them. Lily loves being out in the yard, but she does like company when she is out there. She has been trained on her foster family’s invisible fence and enjoys the total freedom in the yard it allows her. Lily is definitely the leader of the fun in her foster home. Her bark sounds like a seal and she is usually barking only in excitement when someone is home. She learned the dog door easily and loves greeting her foster dad when he comes home. She will bark happily (first getting the other two to join in), go racing through the house, out the door, and then do what her foster dad calls her “touch” and “go.” She will race to him, jump up to touch his hand with her mouth, and then keep going in a big arc of the yard without ever breaking stride.
Lily is exuberant in everything she does. She meets everyone that comes to the house as a long-lost friend. Occasionally she will come lay her head on someone’s lap and look up at them as to say, “Come on. Let’s go do something fun!” Lily would be happiest in a forever home with lots of activity and fun people to give her tons of attention. In return she will be a constant snuggle companion following her family devotedly wherever they go.
Original: Animal control officers found Lily wandering in central Pennsylvania and took her to the shelter. Sadly, no one came forward to claim this sweetheart of a dog so the shelter contacted MAESSR.
Lily is just one of the most delightful springers her foster mom has ever met. She jumped right in her car and rode nicely in a crate on the way to her new foster home. Then, she hopped right in the tub for a much-needed bath and stood there patiently while she was bathed. Lily must not have been a stray for very long because her coat was very nice, just a little smelly.
Lily’s house manners are excellent. She eats politely and will leave food if she is not hungry. She has no food issues. A true Velcro Springer, Lily will follow her foster mom from room to room. She is fully housetrained and has had no accidents since arriving. When her new foster dad came home the first evening, Lily heard the garage door go up and went running to greet him. She definitely knew that noise meant someone was home! She is familiar with all normal household noises and knows what is in the refrigerator.
An animal lover, Lily gets along very well with the resident Springer, another foster dog, and the resident cat. Since her manners are so nice, Lily is allowed run of the house when her foster family is away. She does not chew things or get into things, but her foster family closes the tempting bedroom doors while they are gone. Lily does not like to be left in a crate when her foster family leaves, but she has no problem in one while they are home. Since the resident teenagers are home for the summer, she has had plenty of attention. She has done well with younger children in the neighborhood she has met on her walks.
Lily loves to go on walks and rides well in the car. When Lily is excited, she spins in a circle. She is an amazing jumper, too. She can hop in her foster mom’s lap without even moving. She loves jumping for balls in the air. Lily enjoys her time in the yard with her nose to the ground in true Springer fashion. She comes when called and has learned her name very quickly. Lily has long curls on the end of her nubby tail which she wags continuously making her look like a happy feather duster.
Lily’s only vice that her foster mom can find is that she is a true Goldilocks. She loves to sleep on anyone’s bed, anytime. She sleeps on a dog bed in her foster parents’ bedroom at night. But let her mom get up for a second and there is Lily snuggled on her pillow. Lily has tried out every bed and couch in the house thinking that one will be just right. She is very polite about getting down when asked, though. She just turns on the charm and flops on her back to have her tummy rubbed.
Lily would love a forever family to show her complete devotion to. Perhaps your family has some lap space for this sweet girl and maybe, if she is extra lucky, a spot on the bed somewhere.
