When Lilly’s Pennsylvania owner had a military deployment coming up and moved to an apartment, Lilly was turned over to MAESSR to assure this beautiful gal would find a wonderful home. While most dogs take a week or so to settle into foster homes and start playing, Lilly took 12 hours. She and the resident Springer play bow and wrestle and dance around, amusing everyone. When the less playful resident terrier grumbles at her, Lilly knows to leave him be, though he’s starting to fall into her playful ways as well, bumping and rubbing around to get his share of her attention.
Though fine with crating and regularly crated at her prior home, Lilly’s given freedom of the first floor in her foster home at night and while her foster parents are away – all because she doesn’t countersurf, trash dive or chew inappropriate things and has been completely housetrained. She knows sitâ and give paw. Initially pulling a bit on leash, she settles down for walking and has done a 2 mile run with her foster mom. Though Lilly doesn’t beg in the kitchen, at times she will stand and stare at folks eating at the table. When reminded of her manners and told out, she’ll leave the area and shows no signs of food aggression.
Generally mellow indoors, Lilly does love a good frolic with the resident dog on a regular basis, either inside or out. She’s a good solid dog at 45 pounds, a fit weight for her. Lilly shares the resident Springer’s love of swimming and believes that 41 degrees isn’t too cold for a dip. On a recent outing, Lilly plunged into a creek deep enough to paddle about; she didn’t mind the warm water rinse in the backyard at home afterwards either or hanging out by the woodstove drying!
She likes toys and will fetch and play tug-of-war or keep-away with the other Springer. Lilly was an only dog in her previous home, with arranged doggie play-dates, but does seem to love Springer company. Lilly sleeps on her foster sister’s big bed, often with the other dog’s head resting on her rump. She’s been gentle with the 9- and 13-year old boys visiting for Christmas and loves hanging out nearby while they watch movies or read. She likes car rides, settling in easily.
Though open and friendly with everyone she meets, Lilly would relish a family of her own for the New Year. She’s ready to settle in to live happily ever after this next time. She’s not jumpy or nervous or overly energetic the way many girls her age might be but, at the same time, she does love to play and has a nice curiosity about her. She’s always ready to see what else there is see. Active people with a spirit of adventure would suit her well – and if they have a wood stove, too, life would be complete!!!!
