Original: “Although Libra’s story is a little sad, there is good news; she has fallen in love! Her foster dad is her dream.”
Libra entered MAESSR foster care with two siblings when their Maryland owner could no longer care for them due to a chronic illness. The dogs had limited socialization and training because of the long-term nature of the owner’s illness.
Libra is unfamiliar with life outside a crate; she is a very scared baby. Instead of becoming excited when she sees her leash, she cowers down and goes limp. Unfortunately, often Libra needs to be carried outside. Once outside she will walk very nicely on her leash until she has done her business and received a well-deserved treat. Speaking of treats, Libra takes them so gently. She has been working hard and receiving a lot of treats for sitting on command. Libra is very food motivated and is disappointed but not aggressive if you bother her or take her food while eating.
The trip in the car and into the vet’s office was very frightening, but once inside she was a good girl. Libra allowed the vet to exam her ears, teeth, and feet without issue. She also allows her foster parents to touch or pet her ears and feet and look at her teeth with no problem.
When Libra first came to her new foster home, her preferred safe place was her crate. After she was altered, her foster parents thought it would be too frightening for her to wear a cone and did not want to crate her all night unsupervised. Guess where she ended up? Yup, in bed between foster mom and dad. When Libra starts to bother her incision, she is told to leave it and listens very well. Hopefully, once her sutures are removed she will return to her crate. Stay turned on that one.
Although Libra’s story is a little sad, there is good news; she has fallen in love! Her foster dad is her dream. She will run with him in the backyard–almost playing. She follows him everyplace and runs from room to room in panic when he leaves. The second she hears his voice that long tail goes crazy. Of course, foster mom is jealous, but Libra occasionally wags her tail for mom, too. Libra lives with many foster siblings, canine and feline. There are teenagers and other adults. Libra chooses to ignore everybody. The pets can smell her, and she turns her head. The humans can pet her, but she turns her head. Libra will take a while to figure out her new world, but have no doubt, Libra will be a loving, playful Springer. The wonderful holiday time of year is coming, and she will learn about all the joys and fun she can have!
