Original: When Lexie was found as a stray and taken to a Pennsylvania shelter, the staff there contacted MAESSR for assistance in placing her.
Lexie is housetrained, but she does not like to be crated. Luckily, she is not usually crated since someone is always at home with her. So, this is not a problem. Lexie gets along well with all of the adults in her foster home but has not been exposed to children while in foster care. When something interesting is on the countertop, Lexie is a good girl and leaves it alone! At feeding time, she does not like other dogs or people to come near her food as she guards this resource. This behavior is getting better the longer she has been in foster care. Lexie is not keen on cats and will grumble when she sees one.
At walk times, Lexie does well on the leash and does not pull. When she sees other dogs on her walks, she usually grumbles, so her foster mom muzzles her just to be safe. She is in need of more schooling with her commands, but she responds reliably to sit and shake. Lexie loves to go for car rides and is a good passenger. When it comes to playtime, Lexie’s favorite toys are Nyla Bones.
Lexie is looking for a forever home that will work with her in behavioral training and help her gain confidence and trust in people and tolerance for other dogs. A stray may need special help in overcoming a difficult past. Are you willing to work with Lexie to see her grow to her full potential?
