A divorce followed by a move from a house with a yard to an apartment led Levi to become a MAESSR boy. This young field Springer loves to run; however, apartment life with a busy owner working full time and parenting a nine-year-old left Levi home alone a lot. His Maryland owner realized that he was not getting the exercise and attention he needed. So, Levi was relinquished to MAESSR.
Levi’s foster home has three resident Springers with whom he gets along fine. The youngest of the three initiates play with Levi and Levi joins in happily; however, the two older ones growl at him if he gets too rambunctious. In his previous home, Levi met some cats but has never lived with them. A true Velcro boy, Levi likes to follow his foster parents around, especially his foster mom. Levi gets fed in the kitchen with the other dogs and he tries his best to steal my foster siblings treats since the treats are so yummy!
Housetrained, Levi goes to the door when he needs to go out. When his foster parents come to leave the dogs out into the yard, Levi gets them laughing by going around in circles in his excitement to go outside. When the dogs come back in, they all get treats as a reward for going potty. A good policy in Levi’s opinion!
Levi’s foster parents work from home in upstairs offices. During the workday, Levi and the resident dogs stay on the first floor of the house with no problems. He is a good boy who does not counter-surf and does not get up on the furniture– that much. He usually sleeps on his dog bed on the floor during the day. At night when it’s time for bed, Levi starts on the humans’ bed but usually ends up on the floor by morning. His only shortcoming so far is that he has gotten tissues out of the bathroom trash can.
Levi knows “sit,” “shake,” and “come;” however, he needs lots of work with walking on a leash. He tends to get excited during the walk and will pull on the leash. An alert barker, Levi will bark at people who walk past the house to let his family know someone is there. He is always ready for an outing and does really well at riding in the car. His foster parents haven’t had Levi groomed or bathed yet, but they can touch him all over. Good boy!
Playing with tennis balls is one of Levi’s favorite activities. He will fetch it and bring it back to his person for endless repetitions of this process. However, Levi resource guards his toys and growls when his person approaches to play. He is told “No” which has helped and the grumbling generally stops. Levi also loves it when his foster dad gets the hose out so the dogs can bite at the water and get all wet. It’s such a great activity for a hot summer day!
Levi will need an active forever home to match his high activity level. Walking, running, playing fetch should be part of the daily routine. Having a fenced yard would be great, so he can run and play safely. Since he got along well with his human sister in his first home, having a human sibling would be nice to play with as would having another fur sibling.
One of the meanings of the name Levi is “joined in harmony” and this Springer boy longs to live in harmony with his new family.
