Leslie is a diminutive, sweet girl who wants a home and family to call her own. She is a sponge waiting for love and wants nothing more than to be in the company of humans.
While a bit shy at first, Leslie quickly lets it be known she is there. She will nudge for affection and sit as close as she can to the people in her world. She is in a foster home with two young male springers and is holding her own. She will run and play with the boys but always with one eye on her foster mom. She does enjoy barking at neighbors walking dogs or joggers when within the fenced yard, but with a stern “enough,” she stops immediately and runs to her foster mom. This is a behavior that is easily corrected and may well be non-existent when she is placed with her new family. She does not bark or lunge at other dogs while on walks.
Leslie currently sleeps on a dog bed by the side of the bed. She longs for the human bed, but when she jumps up and is told “off”, she quickly jumps to the floor. She will try once or twice to see if her foster mom has changed her mind, but once told “no,” she will go to her bed and stay there the entire night. She crates extremely well and needs little if any “bribe” to go into the crate. She will wait patiently to be let out and shows good crate manners. She will be very quick to learn and, due to her age, will be required to do an obedience class. She understands “sit” and is fairly consistent in following the command. She comes running to any positive sounding request. She should excel in training due to her great drive to please.
She is housebroken and, while she may test the length of the leash, she does not lunge or pull. A bath to wash away the shelter smells was no problem for Leslie and she endured the shower and shampoo with no resistance. She is currently on the thin side but shows no reticence in eating and weighs in at 33 pounds.
Leslie was found in West Virginia as a stray and taken to a county shelter. She hopscotched to her foster home with overnights at several MAESSR homes. All homes reported her to be a good and hospitable guest. She made friends with the resident dogs and obeyed all requests. She showed great interest and patience with children of all ages. She would do well in a single dog household or multiple dog home. She is more people-focused than dog-focused but will play some with the younger of the resident dogs. She shows no food aggression and is very non-food driven. Treats and biscuits seem new to her but she is quickly learning that they are good things!
Leslie will be a great addition to any household. She will need some patience early on to build her confidence, but she will share her love ten-fold.
