Lennox’s Virginia owners decided to relinquish him to MAESSR as they were expecting their second child and did not have the time to give their Springer the exercise and attention that he needed.
Living with a MAESSR foster family has been a positive transformation for Lennox. He is getting lots of attention, exercise, mental stimulation and some needed training.
Active and playful, Lennox gets along well with the two resident Springers; the resident female and he are great play buddies. The resident male dog does not share his toys very well, so toys are only allowed with supervision. (Working with a MAESSR trainer, the foster parents are working to modify resident dog’s behavior.) All of the dogs are fed at the same time but in adjoining rooms and with supervision. Lennox is quite a quick eater and will gobble down his food and then look around for more.
As for house manners, Lennox is still a work in process. He is completely housetrained and will go to the door when he has to go out. As an additional signal, his foster parents are encouraging him to ring the bells hanging on the door. Lennox wants to get on the furniture and the bed but with a treat and quiet request, he immediately gets off. He is getting better and better with this every day. After the first few days in his foster home, he has agreed that his doggie bed is just a comfy as the human bed. Good boy!
Lennox is very much food driven and is a big time counter-surfer. He does not, however, beg for food while his humans are eating. When he lived with the toddler, he often stole food from the child’s hands. Lennox lacked the training to know that this is not acceptable behavior for a Springer brother.
Previous owners kept Lennox crated 8 hours a day while they were at work but gave him run of the house when they came home. His foster parents have set up his crate and he will use it for a nap. He has only been confined there when his foster parents are away for more than an hour.
Lennox is working hard to catch up on some training; however, he is very sweet and he wants to please his people. Those traits plus being food motivated will all help in his education. His is currently learning “down” and “wait.” On his daily walks with the resident male dog, Lennox is learning to walk nicely with the aid of a gentle leader. They have met older children on their walks and Lennox is fine when they approach him slowly. He rides well in the car but would prefer the front seat, so a tether is suggested.
Lennox was a good boy during his vet appointment and is receiving treatment for a mild ear infection. Overall, he is a healthy boy! His previous owners had him groomed regularly and kept his coat fairly short.
This is a pup who wants activity and is doing great with regular exercise, training, and doggy friends to play with. Lennox wants to be a good boy and he will be a great dog for some lucky family.
