Original: “She also brings her foster parents her water bowl if it is empty. How’s that for being proactive?”
Lady came into MAESSR’s care along with her daughter, Lenny, when their New Jersey owners entered assisted living.
Lady is just that, a lady! She has a very soft mouth, gently taking a treat when offered. She also gives kisses occasionally. Lady is a snuggle bug, both with her humans and her canine foster brother. Her foster parents find her to be such a sweet little girl!
Lady is not a big fan of playing with toys, but she does like to play tug-of-war with a soft toy every once in a while. After she tried to chew some hard plastic, her foster parents found her some tough stuff to chew on and that seems to satisfy her. This smart girl knows “sit,” “stay,” and the saddest command of all…“out of the kitchen!” She also brings her foster parents her water bowl if it is empty. How’s that for being proactive?
When this housetrained girl needs to go out to do her business, she will either come to her person and whine a bit, or stand by the door if someone is close by. A good watchdog…but not an excessive barker …Lady does like to let her people know when strangers are around by signaling with a solid “woof!” She walks well on leash, with just a bit of pulling. She rides great in the car…she would LOVE to have her head out the window!
In her current foster home, someone is home all the time. Although her humans will leave for hours at a time for errands and such, Lady does just fine when left alone with her foster brother. At night she sleeps downstairs with her foster brother or upstairs on the dog bed in her foster parents’ bedroom. They have not had to crate her, nor tried to, since she is a trustworthy lady. There has been no counter-surfing or trash picking, even when opportunities arose. Good girl, Lady!
As a senior, Lady does have a little bit of arthritis in her back right leg, but a mild daily supplement really seems to help with all the stairs in her foster home. She is recovering from a UTI and finishing her meds for that. Once the UTI is clear she will begin medication for Lyme disease. Her foster parents believe that when the Lyme disease is resolved she will have even more energy.
An ideal home for Lady would be one where a human is present more often than not. A canine buddy would be a bonus, too. She’s a Velcro Springer and will whine a bit if she can’t find either her foster brother, who is a therapy dog, or one of her foster parents. Don’t pass up the opportunity to invite this little Lady into your life!
