Update 11/12/10:
News just doesn’t get better than the latest on Lady. She’s doing very well. Her foster family has a lot of people coming in and out of their home and she is just a little love bug that wants attention from everyone. She will bark initially when people arrive, but settles down quickly and waits for them to pet her. She will lay on the floor right next to you so that you can give her more loving. She does the cutest thing with her paw when you’re rubbing her belly. She puts it on her nose as if to act shy. It’s adorable! She absolutely loves to give kisses to everyone. It’s one of her most favorite things to do.
On one of these recent spectacular fall days, her family spent much of the day outside and the kids were throwing a ball for Lady. She loves to run after the ball in the yard. She’s not good at bringing it back, but, boy, is she quick for an 8 year old! She also still has lots of “spring” in her legs because she can jump as high as her foster mom who’s 5’4″ tall. On Saturday evening, Lady was exhausted but she definitely had fun.
She still has a nose for hunting too. She loves to hang out in the garage with her foster dad, and, showed him where a mouse had set up home in the bumper of an old car that he has been working on! Good girl, Lady! A fun sight is both laying under the car while her dad makes some repairs to it. What her foster mom wouldn’t give to have a camera handy for that one!!!!
Lady is a very gentle dog in every way and very laid back. She is great with the other dogs in her home and with the children. The kids give treats to her without any worries of her getting their fingers and hope she can share her secret with the resident pack before she leaves.
Speaking of leaving, Lady is going to make it very hard for her family to not fail fostering with her. She is a great dog but, just as she has been a terrific foster for them, she will be a terrific family dog in her adopting home and that won’t take long to happen!
Original:
When Lady’s owner passed away one year ago, her son took Lady into his home with the intention of keeping her for the rest of her life. Unfortunately, Lady did not fit well into his Pennsylvania household. She was too energetic for the resident Pomeranian and she did not like being left home alone. So, her owner’s son contacted MAESSR to find Lady a new home where she will receive the love, attention, and exercise she needs.
Adaptable Lady quickly adjusted to her new surroundings. Her previous family did a very good job training her on the “sit,” “down,” “paw,” and “stay” commands. She does not jump up on the furniture and wonders why the resident dogs do. It’s cute to watch her stare at them as if to tell them that they are not supposed to be up there.
Getting along great with everyone she meets, Lady is quite the people pup. She loves to be close to her humans and will lie down and roll over for belly rubs. Very gentle with the 4 and 8 year old children in her household, Lady enjoys their hugs and kisses and gives them lots of kisses right back! She just loves when her people pet her. If they stop, she will put her paw on their arm to let them know that they are not done.
As well as getting along well with people, Lady also gets along great with other dogs and likes to follow the resident canines around the yard. She does bark at the resident cat from time to time, but he ignores her and when her foster parents tell her “no bark,” she stops. Good girl, Lady!
Lady loves all of the smells of the outdoors and her nose hits the ground as soon as she goes out. She had done some pheasant hunting when she was younger and still remembers how to point at things rustling in the woods. She does very well with the invisible fence and does not push the limits at all. Lady loves to take her foster parents for a walk, but will settle down nicely after a while. She will need continued work on her leash manners, though. Good about riding in the car, Lady lies on the back seat only moving around to get more comfortable.
When her foster family is gone during the day, Lady is crated and she settles down nicely after a bit of barking. She is in her crate for about 8 hours a day and does well. When her foster parents are home, she has full run of the house. At night she sleeps in her crate with the door open within her foster parents’ bedroom. A baby gate is put up in the doorway to keep her in their room and that is adequate to keep her there since she is not a gate or fence jumper.
Although Lady is 8 years old, don’t tell her that, because her foster mom doesn’t think she knows. Lady runs around the yard with the 3 year old resident Springer and she keeps up just fine. When she needs a rest, she comes back inside, but then goes back outside to play a little more. Lady is a funny puppy when her foster mom takes a shower. Lady lies next to the tub trying to get a drink, but when her foster mom tells her no, Lady lies there until mom gets out of the shower. Then, Lady jumps right in to get her drink!
Lady is a super sweet dog who will make someone very happy!
