Original: “This sweet girl is just looking for someone to love her and care for her in her golden years. She would make a loving and gentle companion.”
Lacy belonged to a woman in Pennsylvania who obviously loved her ESS very much and took care of all her needs. Unfortunately, she fell on hard times and was evicted from her home. Knowing that she could barely take care of herself, let alone her beloved pet, the owner made the heartbreaking decision to take her to a shelter. This shelter had dealt with MAESSR before and thankfully arranged for Lacy to become a MAESSR girl.
During Lacy’s trip to her foster home, each transport volunteer commented on how sweet she was. Riding shotgun and mostly sleeping during her journey, Lacy would reach out her paw every now and then to touch the driver’s arm.
Housetrained, Lacy is in an indoor/outdoor run in the basement with the resident dogs during the day when her foster mother is not home. When she needs to do her business, she goes outside. When she is in the house when her foster mom is home, she is taken outside where she prefers to do her business on grass instead of gravel. Outside, she plays and runs around; inside, Lacy is very quiet. Just because she is twelve, don’t think that Lacy is not adventurous. She found a way through the fence and went on a short walkabout. Upon realizing that she was gone, her foster mom called for her and she came trotting back right away! Good girl, Lacy!
Lacy has not met children younger than teenagers. She loved those she has met, playing with them and sitting with them on the couch watching TV. She also likes other dogs. In her foster home there are two resident females, one ten and the other four, and Lacy gets along with both even play-bowing to her fellow senior. If the younger of the two gets too rambunctious, Lacy will grumble at her until she backs off. The resident cat swatted at Lacy when they first met, but she just turned around and walked away from this crabby cat.
A very well-mannered girl, Lacy does not do any counter-surfing, nor does she get into trash or chew inappropriately. Although she does not get on the furniture, her foster parents lift her up on the couch to rub her belly; however, she does not stay up there for long. This curious senior likes to investigate the corners and cubbyholes throughout the house which keeps her busy for quite a while; then, she finally lies down for a rest. When she meets new people, Lacy wags her tail and whole butt, but politely greets them with all four feet on the ground. Such nice manners, Lacy!
Lacy’s foster mother does not feel that Lacy has had any formal obedience training, as she tends to pull some on the leash during their walks. She does not always sit on command either, but she will sit for treats. She definitely does not know stay. However, she is very sweet and not at all obnoxious in her behavior.
Not particularly toy-oriented, Lacy just likes hanging around people. Very sweet, but not needy, she does not have to be in your face or in your lap, but is content to lie at your feet or beside you on the couch so she can be petted. Having her butt scratched and getting her tummy rubbed delight Lacy. She is also a big rooter, snorting and rolling around on the floor or on the couch when getting attention from her people.
Excited at the prospect of eating, Lacy will dance and whine when it is time for her meals, but she very rarely barks. However, when her food dish is actually in front of her, she slowly takes her time eating. Lacy is not a big eater and sometimes does not finish all her food. Not at all food aggressive, she allows her people to take her food bowl.
A good girl while being groomed, Lacy enjoyed her bath and brushing. She was even good about having her ears cleaned. At the vet’s office, she was not the least bit afraid or fearful and was quite malleable. The vet recommended her having a dental treatment and that has been completed with just one tooth removed. The vet pronounced her to be in good health for her age.
This sweet senior would do well in most any home. She would make a great companion for someone who would play with her, take her for short walks, and then come back home and relax. Since she has been very appropriate in her behavior with other dogs and cats, those four footed friends could be part of her forever family too. This sweet girl is just looking for someone to love her and care for her in her golden years. Lacy would make a loving and gentle companion for you.
