Original: Exuberant and loving is Kodiak in a nutshell. Kodi, as he is known to his foster family, enjoys life to the fullest, whether he is bounding around the yard, playing with other dogs, tossing toys to catch himself, or giving love and affection.
Kodi came to MAESSR when his family felt they could not give him the time he deserved due to health issues within the family. Purchased as a puppy, he previously lived with two older dogs and four cats and regularly interacted with young children. He had been taken to a puppy class and an introductory agility class.
In his foster home nothing seems to slow Kodi down. Stairs were new to him but with one slow time up and back down, they were mastered! Kodi gets along well with the other young male springers in his foster home. He plays rough but will change his style when the younger male lets him know to slow down. Given opportunity, Kodi must dream of being a top-rated counter surfer, trash can inspector, or toilet bowl drinker. His foster mom has found that a sharp “leave it” cures his errant thought or misbehavior. His exuberance carries over to leash walking. Kodi always likes to get where ever he and his partner are going first! These very common behaviors in young dogs are easily addressed through training and consistent enforcement. An obedience class will be a must for this youngster. He will be able to channel much of his enthusiasm in training and this will also help his new family control his zeal.
In his previous home, Kodi slept in his crate at night in addition to being crated all day. This may have contributed to some of his excess energy and excitement. He is currently sleeping by the bed on the floor in his foster home. He prefers the floor to a dog bed but would love the big bed, if given the choice! He loves toys of all kinds, plush squeakies, nylabones, balls or tugs. Kodi is enjoying the city life at his foster home. He chases birds in the yard, lets the dogs walking by know he is new to the neighborhood and keeps watch at the windows for any activity.
Kodi is not the dog for someone desiring a sedentary companion. He will be full of himself and an active fellow for years to come. But for the family who is willing to invest time and training in him, he is a true treasure and will be the companion of a lifetime.
