Original: “At 2.5 years old, he’s still a puppy by Springer standards, but he was trained in his previous home and it shows.”
Koda came to MAESSR when his Pennsylvania family was moving and could not take him along.
Koda is a very good boy that did well in the car on his transport. He is curious about everything around him! At 2.5 years old, he’s still a puppy by Springer standards, but he was trained in his previous home and it shows. He knows commands like “sit” and “paw,” and will gladly show you his skills for a treat. When he has to go potty, he will ring the bell by the door. He’s not a huge fan of his crate, but will go in if instructed. He much prefers his person’s lap or their bed, which is where he sleeps at night.
Koda has good house manners, but will put his paws on the counter if something yummy is there. If the trash can is open, he may stick his head in for a sniff and pick out the best smelling thing. He’s not overly interested in toys and he doesn’t chew inappropriately, but would prefer a treat. He does get on the furniture because he loves being with his people. He loves draping himself on the back of the couch which has some doggie advantages–he can see out the window from that spot and he can be close to his people. Koda will quickly get down from this perch if asked.
When he first came to his foster home, he was an unneutered dog and as such he was very interested in his female foster sister, almost obsessively. Neutering will hopefully put an end to that problem. Koda does not resource guard and will eat with his foster siblings with no issue. A vet favorite, Koda charmed the nurses and doctor and he allowed them to touch him all over. He has never been groomed as a MAESSR pup, but it’s not likely to be a concern.
He has not been tested with cats, but is good with children as young as 12, and probably would be fine with younger. He saw chickens at his foster home, but didn’t care too much about them. Koda would do best in a house with a fenced in yard and someone that can spend time with him. He loves attention! He will make a family very happy!
