Update 01/27/2020: “Be carefree and unafraid, beautiful boy.”
Koby spent many months in MAESSR’s most experienced foster home receiving treatment for ear and skin infections as well as gentle, loving care to soothe the fears and anxieties that could have been leading to his inappropriate behavior.
In spite of his foster family’s best efforts, Koby was unfortunately determined to be unsuitable for adoption. Be carefree and unafraid, beautiful boy.
Original: “He is crate trained, but Koby’s house manners are so good that a crate is not needed.”
Koby came to MAESSR from a shelter in West Virginia. He was very scared at the shelter and was afraid of everyone and everything. They wanted a rescue to take him to work on his socialization and people skills. MAESSR agreed to give Koby a chance.
When he arrived at his foster home, Koby was an anxious mess. He had dual ear infections, a severe urinary tract infection, and a substantial skin infection. He quickly bonded with his foster mom and would allow her to do anything to him. Koby even allowed her to groom him even though he was terrified of the clippers. She took it slowly and gave him lots of treats. Although he is still concerned when his feet are handled, this is consistently improving.
Koby loves to ride in the car. He is an excellent passenger and would love to be a copilot on outing his new family might take. He is crate trained, but Koby’s house manners are so good that a crate is not needed. He has free roam of his foster home. At bedtime Koby sleeps in the big bed with his foster parents. He loves to be close to his people. When he first arrived in foster care, he was leery of his foster dad, but he now loves him.
Koby will need a forever home that is committed to working with him. This sweet boy needs a family that will continue to expand his horizons and show him that the world is not such a scary place.
Currently Koby is on an inexpensive anxiety medication. His new family will be required to continue this medication for a minimum of 9 months after adoption.
An extremely loving pup, sweet Koby will be worth every tiny bit of effort that is put into his care.
