Original: Koby is a victim of the recent downturn in the economy. His owners contacted MAESSR for help in finding him a new, loving home when they could no longer provide housing for him or for themselves.
This good looking boy is the vision of health and strength. Both housetrained and crate trained, Koby sleeps either in or outside of his crate. He does have a real problem with submissive urination whenever he is given a command, however sweetly it may be given. Oddly, when strangers come in or he is excited, Koby does not urinate submissively; he just has this problem when any commands are given to him. His foster mom is working with him on this issue. Koby does know sit, stay, and especially come. Outside in the fenced yard, Koby has “come” down pat. It would really help Koby’s behavior if he and his adoptive family were to take obedience classes together.
When something is happening in the kitchen, Koby will put his front paws up on the counter quickly to see what you are doing. Trash cans are essentially safe with him, but he has done some paper shredding while in foster care. Koby loves people of all ages and will jump on them in his excitement. For that reason, he should not be placed with a family with really young children because he could accidentally knock them over.
When Koby rides in the car, he needs to be crated since he does not settle. As for grooming, he will willingly jump in the tub for his bath, but he does not like a dryer. Also, when he is groomed, he wants to lie down. Although he doesn’t seem to mind having his ears or paws touched, he does not like anyone touching his tail.
Koby loves playing with other dogs! If he meets another dog on a walk, he pulls hard on the leash to go and greet his new playmate. Whoever walks him needs to be very strong and assertive since he is an extremely strong puller. This situation could also be improved with obedience training. At the dog park, Koby keeps up with the biggest and the fastest dogs in playing chase and running, running, running! He doesn’t particularly like to play fight with the other dogs, though. Koby is quite willing to share his toys and he doesn’t mind sharing at the food bowl, either.
Koby’s ideal forever home must include a safe place for him to run, preferably, with other active dogs and/or kids! Oh, a doggie door would be great for this active boy also.
Want to play? Koby is ready for you!
