Update 11/10/08:
Kobie had a vet appointment and got to meet his first cat. It was the resident vet cat named Moe whom he met and showed no interest in. He even investigated a couple of cats in crates and wasn’t really interested in them either. He was more interested in barking at the other dogs in the waiting room.
For his vet appointment, Toby was rather scared at first but seemed to warm up to everyone before leaving, especially when they started handing out treats! He was very good when they took blood and gave him the rabies shot. All in all he did very well.
Riding in the car was a scary experience for Kobie. He sat behind the seat all the way to the vet’s office and all the way home. He never jumped on the seat; he just sat on the floor. A little more travel time should help calm his fears.
Kobie is such a fine dog. He has progressed very well in his housebreaking. There have been almost no accidents lately, and, on a recent morning when the doggie door was locked, he did ring the bells on the door to be let out. So, there is progress and he barked to come back in!
He is the cutest thing going! Kobie will make a family one very loving additional member.
Original:
Purchased as a puppy by a husband wanting a house pet, little Kobie did not stay in the house very long because the wife did not like accidents that come along with housetraining. Crated at night in the garage and left alone in the fenced yard by day, Kobie was not getting much attention, training, or playtime since the husband both worked and attended school. Realizing that Kobie needed and deserved more, the owner contacted MAESSR.
Kobie’s foster family has found him to be an affectionate, sweet youngster who is still full of loving puppy kisses! Although he was hesitant to come into his foster home the first time because houses had been off limits, he is really enjoying his time in the house. Kobie is an old hand now at going in and out, and uses the doggie door regularly. Housetraining is still a work in progress, though, with accidents in the house still occurring.
Having other dogs in the house has also been a treat for Kobie! He loves their canine companionship and play. He has not had so much as a scrap with any of them. Kobie loves people, too, and would initially jump up on them in his exuberance. A fast learner, Kobie learned to sit in about five minutes. Now, when people come to him, he sits. What a good boy! When he is corrected for improper behavior, he is a little submissive and takes the correction well. Kobie is very good with riding in the car and is happy wherever his people take him
Kobie loves his foster family’s grandchildren, ages ten through thirteen. If his forever family had older children and a dog, Kobie would be delighted! His puppy bounciness would probably not make him too suitable with toddlers, though.
Watch for more on this sweet boy as he continues to thrive in his new environment. As his foster mom says, “What a great dog he is!”
