Original: “He even enjoys the kitties in his foster home and will help them with their grooming by licking their ears.”
A Good Samaritan in Pennsylvania found Kobe as a stray and took him in while looking for his owner. Because the family was unable to keep Kobe when no one claimed him, MAESSR was contacted for help. The young children in the temporary home were reportedly sad to see him go, but lucky Kobe is now a MAESSR boy.
This is fortunate for Kobe as he now is receiving some needed veterinary care. He’s being treated for being Lyme positive and for an ear infection. His teeth need a good cleaning and he has a small mass under his full tail, which the vet believes to be superficial. Both the dental and mass removal will occur when Kobe is neutered in the near future.
Since joining his foster family, Kobe has been good with everyone he has met including children, other dogs, and cats. It’s apparent that he is a sweet, soft, goofy boy whose tail never stops wagging!
Kobe has been a perfect gentleman in his foster home despite being intact. He has not bothered his foster sisters nor lifted his leg in the house. Completely housetrained, Kobe will whine and go to the door to signal when he needs to go out. He even enjoys the kitties in his foster home and will help them with their grooming by licking their ears. What a sociable and thoughtful guy!
Kobe’s house manners are impeccable, too. He does not try to get on furniture and does not mind being gated in a room when his foster mom has to go to work. At night Kobe is happy to sleep on a dog bed. Although he hasn’t been tempted – because the counters are kept clear of food due to the kitties – Kobe is tall, and any food left out could well be within reach. Given his manners, it’s likely that he would be a gentleman about leaving the counters alone. With his teeth currently in bad shape, Kobe hasn’t chewed or played with anything like toys or bones, but that may change after his dental work is completed.
Even when “begging,” Kobe is very polite. If he sees someone eating, he will quietly sit and watch, hoping for a morsel. When offered, he takes it very gently. And speaking of treats, Kobe has been allowed just a few of them. He could stand to lose a pound or two. Since he has shown a little stiffness in his hips, keeping any extra pounds off will help keep this boy running around for years to come!
Commands that Kobe knows include “sit,” “shake,” “speak,” and “down,” although he doesn’t go down very fast! So far, “come” is questionable since “Kobe” is a name he’s only recently acquired. When walking on a leash he will pull if something catches his interest – be it a scent or something he sees – but he doesn’t pull the entire time. Greeting people and dogs is done appropriately. When riding in the car, Kobe is crated; he will fuss just a bit before settling down.
During his vet visit and when being groomed, Kobe became a “statue.” He let the vet and groomer do whatever needed to be done. He then gave himself a good shake when it was all done! Ear cleaning is done without a fuss, with Kobe sitting perfectly still until it’s finished.
Kobe is a sweet, laid back guy who seems to take everything in stride. He loves being part of the “pack” in his foster home, but would probably be okay as an only dog, too. Kobe loves his people, too, and wants to be with them. His full tail is always wagging when he’s with them.
Keep posted on more news about Kobe as he resolves a few medical issues. Once he’s in tip top shape, he’ll be ready to be a wonderful companion for his new family.
