Update 1/22/04:
Kobe has been adopted by his foster home.
Original:
Kobe came to MAESSR from a shelter in Voorhees, NJ. He was surrendered by his family who had a list of excuses why they couldn’t keep him. Didn’t get along with the wife. No time to take care of him, etc, none of which his foster dad found to be valid. Kobe had a pretty good case of kennel cough which needed to be cleared up before he could be neutered and turned over to MAESSR care. All that meant he was at the shelter for about a month.
He got to his foster home about ten days ago, and has settled right in with the resident female Lab and Springer. His foster brother saw things a little differently and wanted to make sure Kobie knew his place. After a few skirmishes, things seemed to have evened out. Kobe figured he had to be diplomatic, and coped with his new situation like a champ.
Kobe is just a happy guy. His full length tail just wags and wags, and tells you he is just happy to be in a nice, but temporary, new home. It’s much less stressful than the shelter. The lady at the shelter said that he didn’t show any cat aggression, and his foster dad would have to agree, although there haven’t been any significant cat encounters. Kobe was polite to the groomers cat, and even seemed to express some interest in being friends. Kobe did fine at the groomer and now looks like a million bucks, although the groomer said he was a little touchy about his head and front feet.
Kobe got to see the Vet just the other day, and he’s in great health. He was HW-, Lyme-, parasite -, and now has gotten his Interceptor and Frontline. He’s UTD on all his shots. He weighed in at 46 pounds, and Doc thinks he’s 3-4 years old. Doc said he’s another nice MAESSR dog!
Kobe’s been real good on the housebreaking subject. After a month in a shelter, he’s gotten right back into the swing of things. He’s crated while foster dad is at work, and has had no problems, and even seems glad to “kennel up” for a biscuit when dad heads off for work. Kobe’s got a lot of curiosity. He will snoop the trash, but it’s a minor issue. He hasn’t counter-surfed, but it looks like he’d sneak a bite of dad’s dinner if given a good opportunity. Kobe likes to explore anywhere he can get his head in, like the kitchen cabinets, the refrigerator, but just seems nosey, he hasn’t tried to gobble any food items.
Kobe doesn’t mind being invited up on the sofa to get a little affection, but most of the time he seems to prefer to stretch out on the floor. He’s had plenty of opportunities, but hasn’t chewed a thing. He’s an amiable guy, and likes to meet new people. He warms right up to them, and, oh, there’s not an open car door that that he can resist, and loves to ride in the car. Just ask him if he wants to go for a ride!
Kobe will do best with a family with a fenced in yard. He doesn’t seem to want to run off, but he’s so curious that he wants to explore whatever might be around the next corner, and when he’s in that mode, his foster dad has to raise his voice to get his hearing to kick in. He comes when he’s called as long as he’s listening.
Kobe hasn’t been tested with small children, but given his happy-go-lucky personality, his foster dad is confident that he’ll be just fine with kids. Kobe is a “medium” on the energy level scale, no couch potato, but not “off the hook” either.
Do you have the “right stuff” to make a forever home for Kobe?
