Original: “Kiwi is a loveable, goofball Springer who will make some lucky family a great companion.”
A young 7 year old girl with an exuberant outlook on life and a love for cuddling, Kiwi came to MAESSR after her West Virginia owner died. After her owner’s passing, Kiwi was first placed in a shelter where she was spayed, brought up to date on all her shots, and had her teeth cleaned. They are now sparkling white. Now she is ready for her future life as a MAESSR girl.
Kiwi is an excellent house guest with no counter-surfing noted. She investigates everything but only sniffs and moves on. Good girl! Although she will go in a crate, she doesn’t like it and doesn’t need it since she is housetrained and reliable. She’s been left alone in her foster home with no sign of separation anxiety. When her foster family returns, they usually find her on foster mom’s chair where she was obviously resting during her parents’ absence. At night she sleeps on the bedroom floor at the foot of the bed.
Playing with toys she liberated from a basket at her foster home is one of Kiwi’s favorite activities and she occasionally breaks into a whirling dervish dance just for the joy of it! Kiwi enjoys going on walks to check the neighborhood news. She’s learning not to pull on the leash. If it is time to go in the car, Kiwi enthusiastically joins her foster parents for the ride.
A smart girl, Kiwi picks up commands and words quickly– except when she doesn’t want to. “Sit” is her best and she knows “off” and “out.” Her vocabulary includes “breakfast,” “biscuit,” “people food,” and “all gone.” She’s learning ‘”down,” “don’t pull,” and “don’t jump” since she jumps on people and the car currently. The last two are the hardest.
Kiwi doesn’t waste much time barking unless it’s really necessary and will alert with a low growl if she hears something strange. She’s an excellent watch dog!
It’s been reported that she’s okay with other dogs but is unknown with cats or small animals. Her bouncy attitude would probably not be a good match in a home with small children that could be knocked over by her jumping up in greeting. Her forever owners should be gentle with teaching and reinforcing commands.
Kiwi is a lovable, goofball Springer who will make some lucky family a great companion.
