Updated January 25, 2005: Kirby is doing great in his foster home! He is a terrific guy and, despite his senior status, he still has plenty of energy left in him. His foster mom would never guess his age by the way he acts. With lots of snow this weekend, Kirby shared in the fun with his family and loved chasing his human foster brother on his sled!
Kirby is completely housebroken and can be left uncrated while home alone. He doesn’t mind being crated though, and, will happily go in if asked. Kirby has one small health issue. He has a lump under his neck which 2 rounds of antibiotics have not reduced. It doesn’t bother him at all or hurt when touched, so his vet feels it would be ok to leave it alone for now.
Kirby really is a very sweet and loving dog. He has the cutest face and just seems to smile all the time. He is a perfect gentleman and needs a family who will treasure his mature and lively nature. Long after winter has passed, Kirby will be playing with the people in his life. Why not let that be you?
Original: Kirby is eleven years old, but you would never guess it by the way he acts. He is definitely young at heart! He was rescued from a shelter in West Virginia. There is not much history about him as neighbors brought him in when his owner moved and left him behind with two other dogs. Kirby has been bathed and his coat was trimmed short because he was very dirty and tangled when he arrived at the shelter.
Kirby is very excited to be at his new foster home. He loves to fetch and will play for hours, both inside and outside the house. His favorite toy is a tennis ball. He gets along great with the resident male ESS and is good with cats, both inside and outside. Kirby also loves his 7-year-old two-legged foster brother! He is a “Velcro” dog and follows his foster mom around everywhere she goes. He always has a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.
Kirby is completely housetrained. It is not known if he was an inside dog at his previous home, but he has quickly learned house manners. He does not jump on furniture or people. He is crate trained but is currently not crated in his foster home. Kirby does great when left alone during the day while his foster family is at work. He sleeps beside his foster mom’s bed at night.
At 60 pounds Kirby is very strong but very gentle. He lets anyone handle him and doesn’t care if his food is bothered when he is eating. Kirby has no chewing habits, does not counter-surf or get into trash. He is learning simple commands from his foster mom. He is great on a leash and has good recall. This fellow also rides very well in a car.
Don’t be fooled by his age. This senior has a lot of energy and love left in him! Won’t you give Kirby a home so he can live out the rest of his years in comfort and joy?
