Update 04/27/2025: “Even more special treatment occurred when she celebrated her 13th birthday with a special yummy meal and treats.”
Miss Katie was a joy and a definite love! She so loved her walks, enjoying the outdoors and simply hanging around her foster mom. When Katie saw the leash come out, she was ready to go! Walking in the back field seemed to be her favorite spot to take her walks, as she could smell all the creatures that once passed by.
A perfect little lady in the house, she was certainly trusted in all aspects. Katie enjoyed her special meals and especially those chicken jerky treats! Her eyes would light up when she saw her foster mom open the bag and she was more than ready to come and get it! Even more special treatment occurred when she celebrated her 13th birthday with a special yummy meal and treats.
Katie, unfortunately, began having small seizures, to where the seizures escalated more frequently. Her vets felt, in reviewing the videos of her seizures and evaluating her, that she most likely had a brain tumor due to her reactions to the seizures and the effects afterwards.
With love and sadness, it was decided best to alleviate Katie’s suffering from these episodes; she peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge while being held in her foster mom’s arms.
Katie spent her senior years being loved. She gave much love and received love back tenfold. This beautiful soul is definitely missed and will always be remembered.
God speed Miss Katie!
Update 03/10/2025: “A very quiet girl, Katie’s foster mom has yet to hear her bark!”
Miss Katie has adjusted quite well in her new foster home. She is a lovely, petite, senior who is enjoying her new daily routine. A very quiet girl, Katie’s foster mom has yet to hear her bark! Every now and then when concluding a big yawn, Katie will let out a loud “woooo.” Katie will whine when she needs to go out, wants more attention, and of course her beloved chicken jerky treats! These chicken jerky treats will cause her eyes to light up and trot very quickly behind her foster mom to obtain one.
Katie enjoys her belly being rubbed along with her cheek/neck areas. She is very good at getting her paws trimmed and her nails clipped. However, ear cleaning is not on the top of her favorite list! Her foster mom has to work quickly when cleaning her ears before Katie makes a beeline away from the ear cleaning.
During her vet visit, Katie was a very good girl. She was seen for an ear and skin infection. Oh boy, thought Katie, more ear cleaning! Thankfully, Katie’s ears are better. For her skin infection, Katie was treated with a mousse shampoo, which worked amazingly well. She has progressed from having only a partial coat of hair to now having a full soft, coat of hair. Katie didn’t mind this treatment as it was applied by massaging in the shampoo. There’s nothing quite like a massage!
Katie is thankful the weather is getting warmer, as she does love to go on walks. Investigating telephone poles to see who may have passed by, enjoying the wind in her hair, and spending time exploring are a real pleasure for her.
Katie has met several neighborhood dogs, which she basically pays no mind to, but she’ll let them sniff her and maybe have a nose-to-nose greeting. She has met several neighbors and did fine.
With warmer weather approaching, Katie will certainly enjoy more escapades out of doors by checking out new places. Stay tuned for more adventures of this sweet senior girl!
Original: “Trying to keep up with her foster mom has helped get the muscles moving!”
Katie and Kelsey came to MAESSR after their Virginia owners died. They were treasured members of the family who wanted their pups to be re-homed by MAESSR. Although both pups are very sweet girls, they are not bonded.
Katie is a sweet loving girl that loves a comfy dog bed. She likes people, treats and a good bone to chew on. She is crate-trained and housetrained, but a crate is not necessary as she does not counter-surf or trash dive. Good girl, Katie! In the car, Katie rides well but she needs assistance getting in due to her age.
When Katie came to MAESSR, she could barely walk. The girls had been crated a lot in the last six months as their family was dealing with major health issues, and they had lost some muscle tone. Now that she is all cleaned up, nails trimmed and hair trimmed from feet, she is walking better. Trying to keep up with her foster mom has helped get the muscles moving, so even better. Katie likes short walks and taking in the world. She is taking a quality joint supplement to help with her mobility. Katie cannot do more than two or three stairs.
Katie has been treated and cleared from a persistent UTI and bi-lateral ear infections. She does take a medication to stop her leaking when she is asleep.
This is such a nice girl! Her new family will treasure every minute with her.
