Katie is a 6-year-old springer who has lived with her family since she was a puppy. She needs a new family because the man of the house was never a dog person and no longer wants her around. The lady of the house wants desperately to find a home where everyone will love her as she does.
Katie is housetrained and can be left at large in the house all day without a problem. She lives with a 1-year-old boy and is great with children. The toddler has been all over her and she likes it. If the child cries, Katie is the first to arrive to make sure that she is all right. When she has had enough attention from the kids she will find a quiet place to nap.
Katie has never bitten anyone. The only time she has ever growled at her owner is when she did something bad (and she knew she was in trouble) she rolled over and cowered in submission and the owner decided to hit her anyway. So, she growled. The new family should know that discipline for her should be nonviolent such as isolation from her people or a raised voice.
She is only luke warm with other dogs and should probably be an only dog. However, she loves to play with the cats! She has also been around horses and is fine.
Katie is very smart and quickly learns words. She knows sit, stay, come, down, paw, shake, roll over, sit pretty and will work for treats. She will pull on a leash when walked but off the leash she would prefer to be with her people in their 1 acre yard than run away. She is very much a people person and loves company. When a visitor arrives she will jump on them for joy and then quickly settles down. She used to love the car but lately the only time she gets to go for a ride is to the vet or groomer. So the new family needs to show her some good times with a brief car ride to change her opinion on that.
Katie loves food and might beg if you let her and unattended food on the kitchen counter might be too much a temptation for her. Katie’s health is excellent. She has, however, gotten a contact dermatitis on her abdomen in the past. It is not clear what the source was but an antibiotic cleared it up.
Katie LOVES to swim even in a pool. She also loves any kind of ball but does not retrieve but plays keep away. At Christmas, her favorite thing is to open her presents (or yours). Her family says she is very funny to watch! They have given Katie her own chair in the family room so in her new home she may want to help herself to a seat!
Do you have a place in your home for Katie?
Update: 6/11/03:
