Original: Kate is a gorgeous gal with very delicate features. She has a tall, lanky, and regal look about her. She came into MAESSR’s care because her owner moved and left her with someone who was not prepared to have a dog. Kate changed homes at least two more times before meeting her MAESSR foster family. Once in her foster home, Kate visited the vet and was found to be in very good health with only a few short-term needs. She is being treated for a parasite infestation and, not surprisingly, is also underweight. With regular and generous meals, she is expecting to gain a healthy weight.
It seems that Kate has been an outdoor dog most of her short life, but she is adapting well to living indoors. She is housetrained and accepting a crate well. She sleeps in her crate bedside at night and will retreat to it independently for solace at times when her family is home. Kate appears to be a high-energy dog, trotting and prancing everywhere she goes. However, some of this energy could be nervousness in her new surroundings and she seems to settle more and more every day. At first she guarded her personal space from the resident springer and cats, but she’s becoming much more relaxed with them.
When it comes to people, Kate is very, very sweet and gentle, but a bit timid at this point. She likes to be near her foster family and really enjoys being petted, but she can become afraid quickly. She is overly-obedient and will try to hide if anyone raises a voice to her. It appears that someone ruled her with much too firm of a hand. She is becoming much more at ease with the people in her home and is learning every day that she is safe and loved. Her foster parents have seen no food aggression toward them from her. Kate will let them remove food from her mouth and accepts touching all over.
The cutest thing about Kate is that she smiles when she gets excited. Especially at first sight of her foster dad, she waggles her little tail and smiles. It is adorable! At first her foster mom thought it was a growl but then realized Kate is too amicable and happy for this to be aggressive. Kate will soon be ready for a forever family who will love her and offer the same sweet, gentle treatment to her that she gives back to the people she comes to trust. Could that be your family?
