Update 11/25/08:
JT, as Justin Time goes by for short, is doing remarkably well. He has just completed neutering and his heartworm and Lyme tests came back negative – yahoo!!
His playmate in the house is still the energetic resident Brittany, although JT will tug on the resident ESS’s ears to get his attention! The resident ESS continues to be JT’s pillow of choice. JT does grumble when he has a treat and doesn’t want to share with the two residents; his foster family is working with him on this behavior and is pleased to see that he does not do this with humans. At the same time, JT will walk over to the residents’ bowls and share their meals with them without any issues.
JT’s very curious but then, what puppy isn’t? He really doesn’t get into much mischief! Aside from the wrestling matches with the resident Brittany, JT’s activity of choice is cuddling with the human family. He’s ready for the furever family who will show him more about the big, wide world and chuckle a lot as he grows into it ¦:)).
Original:
After a raid on a puppy mill, the Philadelphia SPCA took in over 150 animals due to sickness or unsanitary living conditions where animals were living in their own waste. Among this number were five Springer puppies that were approximately twelve weeks old. The shelter staff worked very hard to get as many animals as possible out of the shelter and into rescue groups as quickly as possible. MAESSR was more than happy to oblige! There is nothing cuter than a Springer puppy and foster families quickly rallied to take in these pups. Who doesn’t like puppy breath?!
Some MAESSR foster moms went to the shelter to pick up the puppies that were happy to cuddle and play! They were whisked away to their foster homes and started on their road to recovery. These little puppies smelled as if they had been living in a pig pen, but their MAESSR foster homes got them cleaned up and smelling like puppies again! They are feisty, happy and funny pups! Typical of Springers, they love being with their people and love to wrestle with other dogs!
This beautiful tri-colored male was originally named Justin, but his foster family changed his name ever so slightly to “Justin Time” or “JT” for short. JT is learning that big dogs can be so much fun! His foster home has a resident adult ESS and a Brittany. JT has learned that the Brittany is a wonderful play companion and that the resident ESS doubles as a wonderful pillow! JT also has a two legged foster sister who is eleven and he does extremely well with her.
This beauty is just about completely housetrained and is also crate-trained. JT is a smart little pup and he is learning commands such as “sit,” “wait,” and “come.” He rides nicely in the car when his people are petting him; he will cry when they stop. He loves to play ball and fetch sticks, but in true Springer fashion, his favorite thing to do is to cuddle with his human foster family and get belly rubs, hugs and kisses. JT currently does some mild grumbling to the resident dogs when he has a treat or is eating his food, but his foster family is working to correct this behavior. He never grumbles around his humans though.
Watch for more as JT as his personality continues to unfold in his foster home.
