Update 06/27/2013:“His adopting family was unsuccessful in their attempts to get Junior to stop ‘fence fighting’ with the neighbor’s dogs, so, for everyone’s peace of mind, he returned to MAESSR.”
Junior was adopted by a wonderful family who really liked him. Unfortunately Junior was “fence fighting” with the neighbor’s 2 labs every time they were out in their yard. This caused a lot of disruption. Some dogs “fence fight” for fun. Junior is one of those. He did not mean any harm, but it was very scary for his adoptive family and for the neighbor’s labs. His family was unsuccessful in their attempts to get Junior to stop so, for everyone’s peace of mind, he returned to MAESSR. The adoptive family said that he was absolutely perfect indoors; it was just when he was outside that he was a problem.
Junior returned to his original foster family and walked in like he had never left. He is his normal sweet self and doing well with the multitude of other dogs in the home. The anxiety medication has helped him be more comfortable. Now all Junior needs is a forever home. Is it you?
Update 05/22/2013: “It’s with people that Junior shines. He absolutely loves his people and is very smart.”
Junior has been doing very well in his new foster home. His family has determined that he is somewhat of a loner who seems to have anxiety when meeting new dogs or when being put into new situations. He is on an inexpensive medication which seems to be helping as he is very mellow most of the time. He is not the type of dog to attack first but he will definitely not back down if threatened. His fear makes him suspicious of other dogs but, if they approach him in a passive way, he is fine. If a dog approaches him directly and gets in his face, he will feel threatened. A new foster brother suffers from the same issue and now that these two are used to each other, they have been seen to wrestle and play with each other on occasion. His other foster brother has much better social manners. He approached Junior appropriately and they have absolutely no issues.
It’s with people that Junior shines. He absolutely loves his people and is very smart. He quickly leaned the ins and outs of his new home and absolutely loves the fenced yard where he can run. He is always on the lookout to escape, however, and has been seen trying to dig under the fencing. Therefore, he cannot be trusted out alone for any length of time.
Junior is very laid back when indoors and has wonderful house manners. His biggest vice is that he loves to have something in his mouth and any shoes left around are fair game. He has not tried to destroy anything, but he will take the objects outside whenever possible.
When it comes to his toys, Junior prefers to play alone. He loves to empty out the dogs’ toy box but, unfortunately, does not seem to know how to put them back! He loves to eat and can be counted on to finish his brothers’ food if they leave any in their bowls.
He is definitely a people-loving dog and would be happiest in a home with someone home all day. He’s a tease. He’s a clown. He’s an energetic fella who responds to confident leadership. Junior’s ready for a new family. Are you ready for him?
Original: “He loves to chase butterflies and sometimes chase his shadow.”
Junior found his way to MAESSR from Pennsylvania after his owner went through a divorce. Financial reasons forced her to move in with a relative and Junior did not get along with her cats.
This handsome boy has done very well in his foster home, living with multiple dogs. He is crate trained and seems to prefer sleeping in his crate at night. During the day, Junior has free roam of the house while his foster family is at work.
A very smart boy, Junior knows a number of commands, including “leave it,” “ball,” “treat,” “paw,” and “crate,” as well as the basics of “sit,” “stay,” “lie down,” and “come.”
He loves to chew on his Nylabone and will do that for hours. He loves to chase butterflies and sometimes chase his shadow. Junior also likes to carry shoes around, but he does not try to chew them. He loves his Kong, especially when it is filled with peanut butter and kibble!
When there are too many new things going on at the same time, Junior gets anxious . On a recent trip to the vet for a checkup, he got extremely agitated when being restrained for the blood draw. He was not trying to bite anyone, but rather trying to get away from the situation. Since entering foster care, Junior has been started on an inexpensive medication to help with this anxiety. It seems to be making a big difference for him.
Watch for more on Junior as he settles into his foster home and prepares for the move to his forever family.
