Update 2/9/05: Poor Junior has had the rug pulled out from under him again. He is back with MAESSR, this time, unfortunately, due to the passing of his owner. At this point, he’s a very sad boy, just quietly letting out little whines every now and then. He’s still very sweet, great to walk on a leash, doesn’t pull AT ALL and is a bit of a baby, well, a big bit! His visit to the vet shows that he’s positive for Lyme disease and has a bacterial infection on his chest, stomach and groin. Also, he has a bacterial infection in both ears and one ear has a yeast infection in it also. He’s on cephalexin for his skin and two ointments for his ears. Junior is such a doll. He lays quite patiently and lets his foster mom put the ointment in his ears without any fuss. All in all, he should be the picture of health in a couple of weeks.
He’s a beautiful bench type springer, a little shorter than your typical springer. Junior responds well to commands, and even though he likes to be where the action is, he has a sense of space and not invading it. The people in his life are not constantly tripping over him. For the past year he has lived with two other dogs, so he would easily fit into a household with another dog. He would also do very well as an only dog where he would be on the receiving end of all the attention. His preferential spot for repose is a couch, chair, or bed but he is most accommodating if asked to get off.
His only car ride so far was the trip to the vet his second day in his foster home. He whined a lot, but his foster mom feels this was due more to the fact that his life was in upheaval than anything else. Junior is extremely affectionate and needs to be placed quickly into a permanent loving home. This sweetheart needs to put down roots again.
Update 9/7/05: Junior’s foster family was so taken by Junior that they adopted him.
Original: Junior is a 3 yr. old intact B/W male, HW-, not UTD on shots, with a severe ear infection. The groomer came to groom him and he has mange. She dipped him in Paramite, and he goes to the vet on Monday. He also goes to the vet next Friday when I leave for TN, and will be neutered and get UTD on shots.
Junior is small for a male (18″ at the shoulder, and approximately 40 lbs), and we are working to get some weight on him so he can grow into his head. Otherwise a very good-looking bench-bred boy.
Very, very sweet, with a submissive personality, and just needs exposure to more things around him. The first time his foster dad picked up a pooper scooper when they went for a walk, his foster dad thought he would have a heart attack.
He has no idea about what toys are for. He’s inquisitive about most things (though does know “no” as it pertains to counter-surfing and marking), comes when called, and walks on a completely loose leash (not real certain what a walk is for, either). Junior loves belly rubs, and is starting to grasp the concept of playing with the resident dog. He is completely fine to work around, takes his pills, and just seems to treasure any sort of attention. He’s slightly shy for the first minute or so around strangers, but warms up to them quickly. He has had no exposure to cats yet, but just looks at the squirrels and deer in wonderment when they go for a walk. All in all, Junior will make someone a loving pet, and should have no problem fitting into a multi-dog household.
