Often, MAESSR Springers who have been found as strays come to their foster homes badly in need of a bath. Life on the road and staying in shelters are not conducive to smelling pretty. The need for a bath was most evident in the case of Jumbo. This super sweet boy was found as a stray in West Virginia after he had been SKUNKED! Needless to say, he has had several baths. When he got to his foster home, besides still smelling rather potent, poor Jumbo had massive amounts of pine sap matting his hair to his body. His foster mom felt there was nothing she could do but shave him down. Jumbo was very good for the grooming. He preferred to think he was just getting attention!
Jumbo is one of the most loving Springer boys his foster family has seen in a while. He will do anything for attention! Clearly, he never received enough attention in the past and now that he is in a loving home, he is soaking up all the attention and love he can.
While Jumbo was at the vet, it was discovered that he is positive for Lyme disease. He will be treated with a round of antibiotics as soon as he is finished with other antibiotics he is receiving for a small wound he had on his paw. He also had a yeast infection in both ears, which is currently being treated with drops. Jumbo also has a significant under bite which gives him a bit of a goofy appearance, but it just makes you love him more! Once these minor health issues are taken care of, this boy is going to be seriously looking for a loving family!
Jumbo is crate-trained and rides satisfactorily in the car when he is restrained. When out for a walk, he pulls on the leash at first, but quickly settles down when he realizes that this pulling annoys his foster mom. He really wants to do what pleases her. Jumbo had a few “marking” accidents when he first got to his foster home. He quickly realized that got him into a lot of trouble, so now he uses the doggy door to go outside. Jumbo is a fast learner and really wants to keep his people happy with him.
Wanting to please and to be loved– those are the things that make Jumbo the happiest. Some lucky family is going to get a fantastic boy!
