Original: Jonas was found as a stray and was taken to a Pennsylvania shelter where Rose and Tulip were also housed. Like the two females, Jonas is thriving in his MAESSR foster home.
This affectionate, young charmer has adjusted quickly to his new home, feeling secure and happy. The resident Springer mix and Jonas had a few moments of grumbling at each other, but quickly became bored with that and decided that the better thing to do would be to play together. They have been running around and playing ever since as if they have always been together. Food has not been an issue at all; the two new friends even share their food bowls with each other. Jonas’s foster mom can pet him when he eats and is able to add and remove food from his bowl with no negative response. At his vet appointment, Jonas’s infected ears really must have hurt him since he grumbled at the vet when he attempted to clean them. He was quite frightened at this medical appointment in general as it probably was a new experience for him.
Jonas appears to be housebroken since he has been accident free in the house. He does like to mark the back porch before going into the yard. Perhaps he had been a deck dog in his previous life. Although he likes to sit on the couch, a simple “no” or “get down” is all he needs to hear, and he complies without reservation. He has some counter surfing issues as well but responds to a verbal command to stop. At night, Jonas is crated and is quiet once the resident dog settles down for the night near him.
The resident children, ages 6, 9, and 16, get along great with Jonas! When he first met them, there was some major butt wiggling and face licking! The teen is able to walk him on the leash, but Jonas is strong and determined. The family is working with him on this leash pulling. A basic obedience class with his adoptive family would be very beneficial. Jonas is great in the car, though, and loves to hop in for a ride. When he got out of his yard through the neighbor’s fence once, all his foster mom had to do was to call him and open the car door. In Jonas hopped! He wasn’t too hurried to run away, though, because he had to mark every tree in sight!
Jonas is going to make the right family very happy!
