Update 03/18/08:
Nothing is new with Johnny Bear. He simply continues to be the same lover he was when he first arrived at his foster home. :))! He likes to sit on your lap. Yes, he thinks he is a lap dog, a very large lap dog! He also gives the best puppy kisses. They are very wet puppy kisses and they come in very large quantities!
Johnny Bear has discovered that he can jump up on the bed and be King of the Hill along with the other dogs. He plays well with the 3 Springers and 1 cocker who live in his home. He has not met any cats or small children, but his foster mom can not see that he would have a problem with them. He loves everyone he meets and wiggles all the time.
He has taken a shine to removing his blanket from his crate and dragging it around the backyard. That is the extent of Johnny Bear’s “bad” behavior. He will need some obedience training in his adopting home and a bit of that has already begun. JB tends to try to escape out the front door. So many smells on the other side of that door that need to be checked out, you know!! He has managed outings twice in the past week, so his foster family is working on the sit/stay command with him. He is very reliable with his house training and that should carry over to his forever home.
Johnny Bear has no special toys and doesn’t chew but he does love cookies! He should fit nicely in any home. He is going to be a great addition to a family because he loves everyone. All he needs now is someone with a very big lap to love him back!
Original:
Johnny Bear, or BJ for short, was relinquished to MAESSR because he was causing fights with the other dog in his family. The family was trying to curb their dogs from barking by using a shock collar. When they used the collar, it made Johnny Bear feel that the other dog was picking on him and they would fight. The fights were escalating and it was determined that JB should be the one to go. So, Johnny Bear came into MAESSR’s care.
Johnny Bear has been a gem to foster according to his foster mom. Don’t pity JB because he is blind because this happy Springer has taken his changes in vision in stride. He adjusted really quickly to his foster home’s layout and the doggie door; he will adapt just as quickly to his forever home’s floor plan with the patience and assistance of his new family. Although Johnny Bear does bump into walls, furniture, and people, he bounces right back on track. He can navigate stairs just fine and he can jump on any available lap! He would be a 45 pound lap dog if you let him. He loves to be loved!
Housebroken and crate-trained, JB sleeps in his crate at night and goes into his crate on command. He knows sit, will give paw, and is learning down. In his exuberance to be with people, JB does jump up and his foster family is working to correct this. He loves riding in the car. For additional safety, his foster parents crate him when they take him for a ride and he does just fine. JB loves to go on walks, too. In his excitement, he pulls on a leash, but with some training, he will learn to walk nicely.
JB gets along great with other dogs, but he has never met any cats. There have been no issues with the resident dogs in his foster home. He seems to love everyone he meet – two legged or four! As he lived with young children prior to coming into MAESSR’s care, Johnny Bear should be good with children older than six in his forever home.
Johnny Bear is a real honey who is looking for a family to love him. He will give so much love in return! This love bug is waiting for you.
