Original: A very caring couple adopted Joey from a Pennsylvania shelter. When they got him home, they realized he was “too high energy” for them. They contacted MAESSR and asked that he be placed in a foster home. The couple had started the trimming process to rid Joey of a multitude of mats. Once in his foster home, his mom finished the job with clippers and Joey was fine with that. When his hair is grown out, as it will again, he will have beautiful curls.
Joey is a very sweet fieldie boy that loves to run. When he is outside, he is on high alert in case there is a bird (or cat) that needs chasing. It is hard to get his attention when he is this excited. His foster mom would recommend an obedience class to brush him up on the “come” command. When Joey is inside, he is very well behaved. He does not counter surf., although he would be good at it because he has such long legs. He sleeps on a dog bed beside his foster parents’ bed. He loves to lay on his foster mom’s feet while she works on the computer. Like most Springers, Joey likes outings in the car and is a good rider.
Joey is also a very anxious Springer. His foster mom talked with the vet about anxiety medication for him. The vet agreed that it would help. He was put on a daily medication about a week ago and his family is starting to see a calmer Joey. Hopefully, within the next couple of weeks, the medicine will have done its job and Joey can live without the extreme anxiety he has been experiencing. The medication costs approximately $30 per month. The vet feels that in a few months Joey could possibly be weaned off of it entirely. Even if he is not, it is a small price to pay for such a wonderful boy.
Do you have enough energy and love to keep up with Joey? He’s indeed a special fellow who will likely get even better in the stability of a home that knows and loves Springers. He’s wanting an active family who will continue what his foster family has started. This will give him the very best chance to put worry behind and a big, easy smile on his face!!
