Original: Joe and his four siblings came into MAESSR’s care from a shelter in Maryland. A shelter volunteer took them into her home for a few days until they were moved into MAESSR foster homes.
Joe is all Springer puppy. He loves playing with his sister Hannah doing typical puppy wrestling. He loves the yard and always has his nose to the ground. He is quite the gardener. He will pick flowers and run with them in his mouth through the yard. Joe would love a home with a fenced in yard so he can hunt to his heart’s content. Joe also loves to eat! His foster mom swears he has doubled in size in a little over a week. His tummy would get so full that he couldn’t hop up onto the porch. He had some typical puppy feeding issues in the beginning after being one of seven. Now he is starting to realize that the bowl always gets refilled and he doesn’t have to push and shove so frantically. Joe has a lot of nerve for one so little. When the resident female Springer put her nose in the bowl while he was eating, he took his little paw and shoved her in the nose. The resident Springer has had to grumble at Joe a time or two when he gets a little too nervy, like when he tries to take her bone. Joe has met the patient resident cat that lets him sniff her and get to know her. For the most part, the cat just stays out of the way of what she feels is “all this puppy foolishness.”
Joe loves his crate. He spends time while the family is away gated in the laundry area with the crate open. Many times, when Joe gets tired, he will take himself off to bed in his crate. He is doing well with house training. He is learning to use the newspaper in his area and loves treats for going outside. Joe has done well with everyone he has met. He rides well in the car but tends to want to explore if someone is not holding him. Joe is a little more wiggly when picked up than his sister Hannah. If he lives with children, he will do better with a child old enough to keep a good grip on him.
Joe will make a wonderful addition to loving family that has the time and patience to devote to the training and raising of an active puppy.
