Update 10/15/12:
JJ thought he had a perfect forever home. There was only one problem – the home had cats! JJ was returned to MAESSR because the house kitties did not like him. Since JJ loves everybody, it’s possible that he thought the cats wanted to play. Obviously, they did not! And they didn’t care for it when he tried to join them on a bed. This boy has a gentle mouth and would not have tried to harm them; he also was very good with the grandchildren in his home. Too bad the kitties just misunderstood his intentions.
Long runs and walks are on the top of JJ’s fun list. When he comes home, this 8-year-old boy still has energy! Because he loves the outdoors, if given the opportunity, JJ will bolt out of an open door. If he feels he needs exercise, he will take a quick run around the neighbors’ houses and come right back. While he was at his foster family’s farm, he wandered a bit too far and got lost for a little while. He’s now cautious about going anywhere without a human. Smart boy!
JJ is a good house guest. He does not get on the bed in his foster home, although he’ll share some of the doggy furniture along with the other animals. While he is curious in the kitchen and will put his front paws on the counter to see what’s happening, he does not actually counter-surf.
Often found carrying stuffed animals around the house, JJ enjoys playing with toys. He gets upset when the foster family’s puppy takes his toys. He shows his displeasure by standing next to the puppy until it drops the toy; he then retrieves his possession. What great powers of persuasion JJ has!
JJ is a sweet, energetic boy who’s looking forward to a forever home with a loving family. Children and other dogs would be a plus for this good natured guy. But no cats, please!
Original:
After the death of his Virginia owner, family members boarded JJ at the vet’s office until they could make a decision about his future. They thought it best to relinquish JJ to MAESSR so that he could find a wonderful family with whom he could live for the rest of his life.
This fine boy is super sweet and quite shy when meeting new people and other dogs. JJ soon warms up to both. His foster parents have found him to be a big baby of a boy who has a gentle mouth and loves to cuddle. JJ is a real people pup!
Housetrained and crate-trained, JJ signals his need to go out by standing at the door or coming to you and showing agitation. With wonderful house manners, JJ loves to follow his foster parents wherever they go in the house, always staying near them. When his foster mom is working in the kitchen, JJ will stand up at the counter to see what she is doing, but he does not counter-surf or trash dive. He will join his foster parents on the furniture but will also lie on the floor or on a doggie bed. Since he is so reliable inside the house, there has been no need to crate JJ and he has full roam of the house. Even when he has been left alone in the house for a long time, JJ has been a good boy. He is not a barker but will woof at the door if the resident dog barks.
Being eight doesn’t make JJ a sleepy old man; he’s full of energy and loves playing with toys and running around at his foster family’s farm. He also loves the jumping in the water. JJ would really like the resident Springer to play tug-of-war with him but he is not interested. A good boy who is willing to share, JJ does not resource guard his food or his chew toys. JJ gives the impression of being five or six years old instead of eight and he reminds his foster mom of a big, cuddly baby. Initially, he was a bit chubby, but he has begun to trim down nicely with the additional exercise he has been getting.
JJ rides well in the car. His former owner must have had a truck because JJ loves his foster dad’s truck and stays around it when he’s outside. JJ comes when called and stays on the property. Early in the morning, JJ is let out the front door unleashed to take care of his needs and he comes immediately back inside for breakfast. What a good boy! When on a leash walk, JJ does not pull, bark, or chase squirrels! At night, he sleeps in the master bedroom on his doggie bed or on the rug. Being with his people and being loved make JJ happy!
Because JJ is a big boy and so gentle and sweet, he could be a great Springer for a family with children or with someone who would be home all day to give him long walks and a trip to a doggie park. Make this love bug your own!
