Original: “MAESSR’s new boy needs time in a secure environment with a consistent routine, lots of love and many tummy rubs.”
A very frightened Jimmy and a Springer companion were found in a drainage ditch in Pennsylvania after having been turned out of their run by an owner going through a divorce. The Good Samaritan who found them called MAESSR for help, but decided to keep Jimmy herself. However, this playful youngster became irritating to the very large resident German Shepherd dogs, and his rescuer worried that the younger, smaller Springer would be hurt. So, Jimmy also became a MAESSR boy and is settling into a comfy foster home.
A handsome tri-colored guy with a nice, shiny coat, Jimmy is housetrained and has beautiful manners. He cried to show he did not appreciate being confined to the kitchen his first day and now has the run of the house since a member of his foster family is usually at home. When his foster mom leaves for work, Jimmy becomes very agitated and walks around anxiously looking for her. To ease his stress, his foster mom is giving him herbal anti-anxiety supplements.
Jimmy stays with his foster mom outside also and has returned to her when called in spite of being enticed by a barking dog next door. Besides responding to “come,” he knows “sit” and seems to be very trainable—he just wants to please! Jimmy shows interest in birds, squirrels and deer, but has yet to give chase. He’s content to play fetch with a stuffed animal! He does not chew or dig and walks well on a gentle leader. Jimmy likes to kiss, give love, and receive tummy rubs.
This young man is good in the car and was very well-behaved at the vet’s office, handling the injections and exam appropriately. While he found the chip insertion less pleasing, he did not snap or growl—what a good boy! He takes his medication in wet food before being fed dry food although his pills can be put directly in his mouth, too. Jimmy shows no food aggression either.
Jimmy is a well-behaved Springer who has had a very hard few months. Right now he is timid, very insecure, and afraid—his foster mom reported he jumped at the sound of his poop hitting leaves! MAESSR’s new boy needs time in a secure environment with a consistent routine, lots of love and many tummy rubs. Watch for updates on his progress as he learns more commands, relaxes in his foster home, and gets ready for a new adventure—maybe with you??
