Jilly was a much loved member of her family in Pennsylvania. When a family member developed a severe allergy, they reluctantly turned to MAESSR to find her a new home.
Although described by her owners as “just about perfect,” Jilly’s foster mom was a little bit skeptical by that proclamation. After living with her for a while, it’s apparent that Jilly might be compared to Mary Poppins: Practically perfect in every way. She’s completely housetrained and does not trash-pick or counter-surf (she’s a bit too short for that anyway.) There’s no jumping on furniture or beds and Jilly self-crates at night in the downstairs laundry room even though she is welcome to sleep upstairs with her foster mom, dad, and resident dog. She walks very well on the leash and becomes soooo excited when she and her foster brother know it is walk time! She has hardly barked since arriving at her foster home but will let out an excitement bark when the leash comes out.
Jilly loves her foster mom and has the Springer wiggle going almost all of the time when around her. She shows a little less enthusiasm for her foster dad and will run into her crate when he first walks in the door. At a recent party with all women, Jilly gave everyone love. What a great time she had with the girls! While there are no children in her foster home, it was reported that Jilly loved to play with her former owners’ grandchildren during visits.
Jilly is currently living with a male resident dog and they get along well. She passed her doggie daycare temperament test with flying colors but did not interact much with the dogs in the group. She chose to stay quiet in the play group. It is unknown how Jilly reacts to cats, but she enjoys chasing squirrels!
Loving her humans’ attention, Jilly will nudge the resident dog out of the way in order to get more head scratches and belly rubbing. She did very well at the vet’s office and also at the groomer. Jilly’s checkup indicated that she is a bit overweight; she’s now eating a low calorie dog food to get her girlish figure back. She has a tendency to lick and chew her back paws which have staining on them. This could indicate some type of allergy. No allergy testing was done and the vet thought the cause might be environmental.
Although she’s not interested in toys, Jilly loves to play fetch with her chew sticks. She is walked frequently and is let out in the fenced yard quite often. The only signal her foster family has seen to indicate a potty break is when she leaned her head on her foster dad’s chest while he was lying down. Since her foster mom was not around, Jilly knew she had to get his attention somehow!
Jilly and the resident dog have free run of the house when left alone; however, she chooses to spend most of that time in her unlocked crate. How could her foster mom possibly know this if no one is home? With a camera set up in the laundry room, of course!
Truly living up to her reputation as “just about perfect,” Jilly is a very loving and well-behaved dog. She would fit into just about any family situation. This is one sweetie that you’ll fall in love with!
