Jett was adopted from MAESSR in 2018 when she was three years old. She lived with her owner in New Jersey until 2022 when the owner was hospitalized and unfortunately passed away.
A MAESSR foster home was found for Jett in the same shore town in which she has lived so she is still enjoying island life. Jett is completely housetrained and has never had an accident. She will stand by any door when she would like to go out, and if her need is more urgent, she will give a short bark to get her person’s attention. It’s unknown if she is crate trained, but there is no need for this. She has complete access to entire home as she doesn’t get into trash, chew inappropriately, or counter-surf. Jett is a perfect guest!
During the day Jett will normally hang out in the home office working with her foster mother, playing with a toy, chewing on yak bone or lying next to the desk on her bed. At night after a walk and dinner, she likes to be next to her family on the sofa being petted or playing with her family with a toy. She sleeps at night in her foster parents’ bedroom on her bed on floor.
Jett arrived with four typewritten pages of commands that she knows and follows! What a smart girl! She loves her treats for being such a good girl, too. When on walk, she will pull the first half a block from excitement but then settles down. Although she has not met any children, she has had no reaction if a child rides past on a bike or scooter.
Jett prefers to keep her distance when meeting other dogs. This makes her anxious so she barks. The “leave it” command is then used to let Jett know to ignore the other dog and look at her person instead. Then, she gets a treat when she stops barking. Good girl!
A great passenger in the car, Jett loves to go for rides and will either rest on the back seat or sit looking out the window for miles. She recently was at the groomer and there were no issues with having nails or ears done. One can touch her all over and she just loves the attention.
Playing a game of “chase me” with her foster parents is one of Jett’s favorite activities. The game’s object is to have her person try to get Jett’s favorite blue ball from her. She will give low growls, tail wagging, to get her person’s attention that it is playtime. To get the ball from her, ones uses the “give” command and trades the ball for a small treat. She also likes to play with unstuffed toys shaking them in her mouth. She will bark at other dogs, horses, cows on television if she isn’t busy playing, but her parents use the “leave it” command and she will stop. What a good girl!
There are no signs of guarding food or toys with Jett. She eats in the kitchen area with her family and enjoys tiny bits of people food while they are doing the dishes.
Jett will be as active as her adoptive family wants to be; she just wants to do whatever her people are doing and will be right by their side all the time. She will need to be the only pet or animal in the home because of her anxiety with other dogs; she loves all people but other animals– not so much. She is highly trained to her command list and likes to be rewarded for listening. Jett is a really awesome Springer and her adoptive family will be lucky to have her.
