Jessie a sweetheart and a typical springer. The evaluator poked and prodded her, took things away from her, teased, tickled and startled her, checked her eyes, teeth, ears, feet and put my hands all over her. Her only response was tail wagging and licking. The only negative response was when she was backed into a corner and she gave a rumbling growl to say she wanted some space, she didn’t snap or even curl her lip just rumbled.
They tested her with a pretzel and as long as it was in an adult’s hands she didn’t even react much other than a sniff or two with her nose in the air. When a child held the pretzel, it was another story, Jessy fixated on that pretzel (of course its at her nose level) and wouldn’t be distracted. She didn’t attempt to take it but her nose was no more than 10 inches away no matter how much the toddler waved it, eventually her daughter dropped it and of course it was scarfed up by Jessy. (This probably contributes to the fact that Jessy is at least 10-12 pounds overweight.) The toddler kept grabbing at Jessy who kept moving away, no growling just trying to stay out of reach. We want to place Jessy with a family that has no small children.
Jessy has a good temperament and has had some training, sit, down, rollover and shake, but she does pull on the leash. She has been trained to an electric fence, they don’t even put the electric collar on her anymore.
Jessy was crate trained as a puppy, but has not been kept in once since. Her surrendering home will keep her at least for another 3-4 months until a home can be found for her.
