Original: “Jersey may be a senior girl, but she has a tremendous amount of love left to give.”
Jersey and Cannon were surrendered to a Virginia shelter when their owners of eleven years were going through a divorce. Both dogs were in bad shape. The shelter shaved them down since their coats were so bad and was very concerned that no one would be interested in the two senior dogs. A MAESSR volunteer found out about them; that rescue group immediately jumped into action and moved these two seniors to a foster home. Jersey and Cannon were originally thought to be bonded, but, once they had settled in their foster home, they showed that while they liked each other, neither was dependent on the other. Therefore, they will be placed separately.
Poor Jersey. Her teeth were sooo bad. During her dental, the vet removed TWENTY-SIX teeth. Jersey is feeling so much better now. She is bouncier and happier. Her foster mom said she was sure the twenty-six rotten teeth would make anyone feel bad! She is currently eating wet food along with some moistened dry food. As the days go by, the amount of wet food is being decreased, and the dry food is not being as moistened. She should be able to eat dry kibble within the next two weeks.
MAESSR’s new gal does have several lumps and bumps which have been checked and are just fatty cysts.
Jersey is such a sweet girl. Everyone at the vet and groomer commented on what a nice personality she had. She also has wonderful house manners. While she is crate trained, its use is not necessary. This beauty loves to ride in the car and go for walks. She walks well on the leash.
Since the incoming lady was understandably a bit distraught when she arrived at her foster home, she was started on an inexpensive supplement to help her adjust to her new surroundings. Her adoptive home will be required to keep her on the supplement for three months after adoption to allow her plenty of time to settle into her new spot.
Jersey may be a senior girl, but she has a tremendous amount of love left to give. MAESSR seniors are the absolutely finest kind! Adopt yours today and enjoy a new family member during the coming fall season and for long after.
