After Jenny’s original owner remarried and moved to a condo where dogs weren’t allowed, Jenny stayed with his daughter and her three children. However, an extra dog proved to be too much for that Maryland household and MAESSR was called in to help.
This pretty 6 year old is easy to have around. She’s completely housetrained and after one “no paws on the counter,” hasn’t counter-surfed or trash dived. She must have been taught not to jump up because, in response to the tone of voice that would have most dogs trying to give a hug, she keeps all 4 feet on the ground and just wags her stub of a tail so much that her rear end wiggles. Jenny will go in a crate but doesn’t love it. Since she has been completely trustworthy at night and while left home alone, her foster folks only send her into one occasionally just to get her used to it. She does not chew inappropriate things or have much in the way of bad habits. She knows “sit” and “down.” She is not aggressive about her food, but she does like to eat!
At night Jenny sleeps quietly on a rug under the table although she has slept on a bed in the past. During the day, she kicks back while her foster mom works from home, always ready for a walk in the yard or on leash whenever one is offered. On neighborhood walks, she greets other dogs quietly and then moves along on the real reason for a walk: to look for critters. She likes to look at birds and would love to go chase bunnies. She doesn’t obsess but is happy to spot whatever wildlife she can. Reportedly, she also likes to swim! Jenny could probably be trusted off leash in a quiet area once she knows her new folks well as she’s attentive to what her foster folks want her to do more and more each day.
As a young pup, Jenny twisted one front leg a bit, and it now turns out as though she’s doing a slight curtsy when sitting. It doesn’t seem to hinder her trotting or chasing the resident pup around the fenced yard. While she does not actively play with the other dogs, including the resident male terrier, she doesn’t mind them–she just loves her humans more. She doesn’t resource guard but will play tug-of-war with a toy or just fall asleep on top of it when done. Jenny loves to greet her foster family with a stuffed toy in her mouth when they come down in the morning or whenever she sees them. If thrown, she’ll retrieve the toy and play minor keep-away.
This young lady has been to the vet for one missing test and behaved calmly—good girl! She seems to enjoy grooming and likes car rides, riding quietly in the back; she does pant a little more than usual, perhaps still not sure if she’s off to a new person again.
Jenny is mellow inside, attentive to her folks outside and has a beautiful Springer smile that she’s just waiting to let shine on her new family. She would probably be better off as the sole female dog in a household, but otherwise she is one great gal.
