Jennie Lee was turned over to MAESSR because she’d jumped the old female Boston Terrier in her original home several times, and her Pennsylvania owners felt a rehoming would be a good idea for the safety of the smaller dog. She has shown no aggression to any humans, young or old.
Miss Jen was initially a little nervous in her new foster home, was kept separated from the larger resident dogs for about a day and taken on many leash walks to make sure everyone got along before she was just accepted as non-hostile towards them. She had only one accident in her first full day in foster, and since shows she needs to go out by pacing. She doesn’t take frequent pee breaks, just does her business a few times a day.
Completely crate trained, she sleeps in an open crate or under her foster mom’s desk (a crate type enclosure) during the work day and at night. She can be trusted uncrated while the humans are away, but seems to feel safer in her crate so her folks just close the door.
Jennie has good house manners and with 4 feet on the floor at all times, is allowed in the kitchen while the humans cook meals. She’s not at all bird obsessed, ignoring the visitors to the multiple feeders in the fenced yard. Reportedly she would go hunting with her prior owner, but if so, perhaps just as company.
She is supposed to know all these commands (came with a list): “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “here,” “no,” “snack,” “cage,” “move,” “wait,” and “with me” (then tap your chest). Her foster mom has tried most of them and she’s decent following them. She has a rubber Frisbee that she loves to have thrown around the yard. She pretends to play tug of war with it but then gives it up for another toss. When it is put up on a ledge after 5 or 6 tosses, Jen remembers where it was put and looks up the next trip out to remind the human that it’s there, but doesn’t obsess over it.
Separated from her humans, Jennie Lee will sometimes give a decent howl, but a quick “ENOUGH’” usually quiets her down. She loves pets, scratches behind ears, belly rubs and is decent in the car, panting a bit then settling down. Vet visits are similar and the vet said she was sweet, though nervous. She came clipped fairly short so behavior at the groomers is unknown, but she doesn’t mind being brushed, or touched on her paws or ears,
Originally free fed, this love could drop a few pounds, but since she’s good on leash always wags her stub of a tail at the thought of a walk, a reasonable diet and more exercise should have her slim and trim in no time at all. Though not allowed off leash in her foster home, she reportedly was fine in her previous home.
She may have been resource guarding the humans in her original home but doesn’t seem protective of food, toys, or the humans in her foster home. She’s fed about 3 feet away from the resident dogs because she eats more slowly.
Having had issues with small dogs, Jennie Lee would most likely do best in an only dog home or maybe with just a large male dog. She hasn’t had any issues with the 2 female hounds in her foster home, but it is still hard to tell if that relationship would be a problem as she gained confidence. She’d love an active home where she was taken for a lot of walks—she is decent at jogging with her foster mom. She’s focused on her humans, and though not young, she has more years in which to give her love and attention to the right person or family.
